'24 MS DL Kamarion Franklin (Ole Miss commit)

It really isn't much of a leap if you've paid attention to the reversal of course done by Austin Price. He's all but conceded Kam to AU and even today said that Nwaneri is a more likely option, and he doesn't think we have much of a shot at all at Nwaneri.
And he may end up there. Its completely fine for us the fans to take a "wait and see" approach with every update. there is no need to constantly jump off a cliff with anything that doesn't go our way, just like it doesn't make sense to claim "Vol Lock" anytime a recruit says he likes us.

with no set commitment date, things can change. just like things changed TO Auburn things could change FROM Auburn.

How many $ do you think it would take? What offer would you recommend for each guy?

I understand wishing. I wish repackaged broken record posts would magically disappear.
Those are stupid questions. How could I possibly answer that without know what’s available, budgeted, and fair market value?

The ignore button is free to use my friend. And I think I speak for everyone when I say Is love to see what CRG could do with a consensus 5 star DL.

It kind of does. Even if the kid is "leaning" one way or another, he could change his mind. For a few weeks leading up to Warren's commitment, there were people "leaping" all over the idea that someone had beaten UT's NIL offer and the Vols had lost him. The funniest thing is that all that while... he'd already made his mind up.

Did you read your own post before writing this? You are the one saying you wish they'd throw the bank at recruit _____. If you don't know who is still available and how the staff views them... how much is available/budgeted in NIL... or the fair market value then how can you say they should "throw the bank" at someone?

Plenty of "consensus 5 star DLs" bust. They like the guys we're discussing. I'm sure RG could do a lot with them if they'll take hard coaching.

But that doesn't mean he can't take someone else and do just as much.... even a lowly 3* with untapped potential.

Maybe recruiting isn’t for you.

You don’t move on from this kind of player until it’s over and it isn’t over yet.

There seem to be a lot of conflicting rules to determine if recruiting is for me or not.

Move on from a player? Recruiting isn’t for me.

Handwring over a player? Recruiting isn’t for me.

Who can keep track?

Ahh yes, that’ll fix everything.

I hope you guys aren’t this bad at managing money in real life.
Stupid comment. Everything’s not broken. Far from it. I just really want to see CRG have the talent to work with that is in line with his ability to coach: elite.

And I independently manage nearly $200 million of other peoples’ life savings with a retention rate of over 99%. So yeah, think I manage money pretty well, Josh.

It’s actually not stupid at all. (Throwing the bank at one player, however.)

Heupel will recruit kids that fit into his culture and at the end of the day, if they’re just looking for the highest bidder, they’ll replace them with someone else.

How do you know they aren't getting talent that he can develop into elite performers? I'm sure all of us would like to get guys who are "in demand". Those rankings and offer lists are nice affirmations of the evals the staff does. It just doesn't mean they're the only good prospects out there.

If you manage that much then surely you don't make a habit of overpaying for investments? You think about potential ROI and if you think the costs are too high then you look at your other options, right? You don't overpay for something just because it seems to be the "hot thing".

Here's a prediction. If UT loses on this kid and Nwaneri because someone paid too much then the response will be one of two things. One, someone will emerge this fall and look just as promising... and the competition will have already spent their money. Two, UT will hold their money and then be a stronger bidder in the portal for PROVEN talent. Both of those things make throwing money around wastefully in pursuit of prospects that are overpriced... stupid.

If you are managing that much money then apply that business knowledge to what they're doing.

Maybe I missed something here but this escalated rather quickly?

My opinion is somewhat like yours though. And I think if you could really somewhat guarantee that the guys you’re throwing the bank at would be elite on the Dline I don’t imagine spyre would mind throwing that money at them. The problem is if you invest heavy resources in a kid and they’re lazy or don’t contribute etc. Injuires or just a bad evaluation there. Do you invest more heavily in the portal or just focus on high school at these critical positions?

Also I think we’re more focused on getting talent at every position and giving them “fair value” if that can even be determined at this point. Do you throw the bank at any position other than QB and possibly miss out on talent and other positions?

Man please take the narrative argument somewhere else, like to bigorangtrain or littlevol. I know your game. Not interested.

Just saying we have one of if not the most aggressive nil collectives in the country. If CRG can get starter level production out of a 3 star, I’m assuming he can get all conference out of a consensus 5 star. In that scenario, given how important the pass rush is to our defense, I think that type of elite caliber player is worth overpaying for. Worry about squeezing pennies with the projects, write the check for the program changers.

Throwing the bank is a figure of speech. We are obviously not going to allocate all our dollars to one player. Cmon man. I’m saying risk overpaying to secure a bonafide talent upgrade on the dline.

That's fine, and I don't disagree if that's your approach. I also don't think it's some manic, emotional assumption to believe he's trending away from Tennessee based on everything we are hearing from the people most likely to have any inside information on the subject.

If you want to optimistically hold out hope until the eleventh hour, then as you said, that's your right. Two sides to that coin, though. Your choice for optimism doesn't make it any more or less valid than those who think the odds are slim and none, and slim is boarding the jet.

Wow! You post news you read and make a comment and people get all tore up. I'm glad football season is almost here. I hope we get them all, but we won't. That's life Go Vols!

All of us should therefore castigate ALL of those that think he is in the bag or that our bag is not big enough till there is finality. No Kreskin points are available.

So your answer is break the bank, even though you don't know how much that would be and none of it is your money? Cool.

To me, managing the culture in the locker room would be tough to do if you are severely overpaying these HS recruits. Imagine having been at your job for 2-3 years and you’re doing a great job. Reliable, extremely productive, essentially a superstar. Then imagine some hotshot comes in fresh out of school and admittedly he has a lot of potential, but he doesn’t REALLY know how to do his job yet, and he starts out making double what you are making. Would that upset you?
the coaches have a much more complex situation to worry about than just “we have the money, let’s overpay him”.
