Freezes slimy hands steal another prospect from us
lol I think it's a method to the way we're recruiting. I don't think Freeze is "stealing" recruits from us as much as we're not going to be involved as much in bidding wars if that's a major factor.

I believe Heupel and staff also value the current players and don't want to have unnecessary negative ripples from NIL like we had last year with Jeremy Banks. Caused a big team distraction that heavily contributed to our loss against South Carolina.

Agree. kid was always hunting for the biggest bag. there's a reason he visited miami like 7 times

Next up if the kid is all about just money then maybe we are lucky he is not coming to Tennessee. I much prefer a kid that wants to come to Tennessee to contribute to the program and because its a great program.

This is such a fan take.

I don’t want that really talented player! I’d rather take that less talented player because by gosh he really wants to be a Vol!

🙄

I think it is more like your net feelings after getting a date with the hottest chick on campus but figure out she wants the highest priced entree, premium wine, and highest priced dessert every evening. Long term success of the relationship is problematic at a minimum. When other less flamboyant beauties with simpler tastes actually provide really enjoyable evenings as well as fitting in with the rest of your important social circle. You know you can open the wallet and push the envelope but eye rolls en mass by your friends take the joy out of pulling off the achievement. So you politely slow the roll.

Orrrrr we like the player that’s gonna come in and work hard and have just as good production while limiting potential locker room or cultural issues that can come with disproportional NIL see Texas A&M… also calling it a fan take on a fan board is silly… no one player makes or breaks a class this is collectively a very elite class and that’s what’s important… crying over the recruiting misses is such a fan complaint… did I do it right ??

Show one where they changed it.

That's been that way starting back when Rivals was the only game.

Why do you fight the truth so hard? I know your ego is involved. You don't want to admit you're wrong. But you actually look worse for continuing to do what you're doing.

You can’t see out of your own bubble. You are wrong constantly. You ignore the obvious correlation of blue chip players and national championships. You live in your own fantasy land. The fact that you think your takes are the truth shows how out of touch you are. But never change man. You provide great comedy for us.

Interesting. So you know that Franklin will present locker room or cultural issues? How so? I see many using the TAMU example. So because something happened at TAMU that means it will be a guarantee that it happens here???

I never said he would he could be a great locker room addition and I would love to have that on our team but the addition of high NIL freshmen who haven’t played a down raises the risk for locker room and or cultural issues due to natural human nature… every locker room n culture has a risk for issues the more ppl getting paid with little to no production the higher the risk…

No. You just draw a cause effect relationship that does not hold up to scrutiny. You think Bama gets talent because the recruiting sites label them 5*. It is about as opposite to that as it can be. You think the recruiting sites somehow find all of this talent and then Saban follows their lead and recruits them. The truth is that Saban would find and sign talent if the recruiting sites didn't exist. They copy HIS work and that of other high level recruiters... not the other way round.

247 currently has 32 players rated 5*. Bama offered 30 of them. Most of them hold at least 2 offers from UGA, Bama, and OSU. To you... that means that Saban, Smart, and Day have kept their 247 subscriptions up. To me... that means that the recruiting sites give 5* ratings to guys the top programs think highly of.

Truth is that championship argument only works for two programs- Bama and UGA. OSU in spite of being top 3 in talent every year since 2015 according to 247 hasn't won the NC since 2014.

LSU has won the NCAA once and Clemson 2 since 2014. They also do not obey your "rule". When Clemson won it in 2016 they're composite ranking according to 247 was 9th... not top 3. Not top 5. In 2018 it was 6th. LSU won it in 2019 with the 5th best talent according to 247. Their average player rating was 90.60 vs Bama's 93.18. That's not close. In fact, UT was closer to LSU in talent that year than LSU was to Bama.... at least according to the recruiting sites that you assign so much perfection to.

I may be wrong. But if I'm wrong it is because of facts I do not know and we have not discussed. You are just flat wrong about the recruiting sites predicting winners. Two exceptions (Bama and UGA) do NOT prove the rule you claim exists.

I’m a big fan of facts and actual data. Well-earned like.

you are missing the forest through the trees. Note the plural in your own statement. we need multiple blue chip players, but not any one particular blue chip player.

ESD is still months away, and SD is even further away. Our coaches have gotten our best defensive recruits pretty late in the process.

2 of our biggest defensive commits we got late in the year last year.
Hobbs 11/25
Carter 12/14
Even going back to the '22 class:
Pearce 12/15
Josephs 11/22
West 12/15

Its not like our coaches haven't shown an ability to bring in key defensive recruits late in the process. there are still blue chips out there, just because we are missing on some doesn't mean we won't get good/great players. Don't get fixated on the individual guy.

With absolutely no basis, I have come to the opinion that in this brave new recruiting world we, among others, are holding our cards tight to the vest until very late in the process on some of our most coveted and active recruits. Active bidding wars until ESD don't make a lot of sense. Motivated flipping COULD reach an all time high this year. On the other hand I WONDER where it appears to be primarily an NIL bidding war if that cools interest by some staffs. If that is the key motivator for a guy, do you have to do a value assessment on spending money early only to have him look around at the end of his first year. Could money be better spent on finding under rated talent that ended up at lower level programs that have matured and who seek playing at a higher level? GUESSING that more interest will be seen going forward for guys before their JR and SR years. Maybe just maybe there is a better use of the war chest than over spending on the mobile and hot HS seniors.

There is a "free market" here. It is immature and so there isn't much discipline. Ultimately there will be winning strategies and losing strategies. With the portal, you still have a good shot at "winning" if you don't overbid. You can only spend that money once and as you point out there are a lot of guys who were underrated or improved.

Teams throwing lots of money around are taking a lot of risks. By and large, they seem to be motivated by desperation. Miami, Auburn, Mizzou, and even A&M have taken big swings. They're hoping for a "home run" but are far more likely to strike out.
