Hope he doesn’t decide to transfer
I don't get this argument he is playing meaningful snaps its not like Nathan Leacock where he's getting no snaps in his second or third year. He would have played more if he was 100% healthy but he wasn't some of the season and camp. He is a starter next year don't worry. I too wish he got more PT this year but it's going to be fine him and staley are going to be here next year.

Money would be the only reason. Anyone could transfer on any team.

I have no knowledge of his situation but I’d guess he’d get his asking price (not saying he’d ask for more but *if* that happened) and stays.

I hope we can land, keep, and develop as many talented athletes as possible, but at this point him leaving along with some of our other talented recruits leaving might be the kick in the ass and wake up call that Heupel needs to realize what he’s doing isn’t going to cut it

He’s getting playing time, but he’s not getting targets. While blocking is something you want your receivers to take pride in none of them sign up to block. He was heavily recruited by Clemson and look at what their 2 true freshmen receivers did this year. You have to think he’s looking at their production and questioning his decision right now

No, *you* have to think he’s questioning his decision. No proof that he’s actually questioning his decision

You’re a fool if you think the role he played this season is the one he signed up for. I’m not saying he wants out right now, but if his role doesn’t change significantly in 2025 he will be in the portal this time next season. Receivers want the ball and it’s not always in a selfish way either. These guys are competitors and want to win and he likely doesn’t feel like he’s making a big enough impact to help his team win

He’s literally projected to start next year. His role will change significantly.

That’s not me saying he wouldn’t leave. Every player on every team is a threat to leave these days with the money being thrown around.

Kids like him don't come to get "meaningful snaps" when that means spending them exclusively blocking downfield and watching targets go to less-talented options. And that is especially true when you see your freshman 5* counterparts building their résumés and value playing significant roles catching the ball and making an impact in the boxscore to help the team.

I sure hope he comes in and makes a bigger impact, next year. At some point, the refusal to use these young kids will be used against this staff in the living room of future players of Matthews' ilk.

Well if we don’t take more WR via portal the plan will be to work in more young guys, especially if injuries occur.

Yet everyone wants WRs from the portal.

So which is it?

I’d like a playmaker from the portal. Think Matthews and Staley play a lot next year no matter what.

I think many people's issue is with guys like Chas Nimrod and Kaleb Webb playing instead, guys who have already moved on. Other people believe Bru McCoy and Squirrel White are "just a guy" types. Others see Donte Thornton And Chris Brazzell make the spectacular play and then club the routine catch or struggle to stay healthy.

The mystery surrounds the unknown in Matthews and Staley, two highly ranked and recruited kids who are seemingly buried beneath a pretty pedestrian group of WRs who have some serious question marks. How are they not more involved? Are they just not any good, either? I agree, they should be getting more reps next year. I just hope it happens. And I also hope we upgrade on the remaining guys with an instant contributor from the portal or a guy like Brazzell develops further.

Personally, I think Kelsey Pope needs to be put on alert for the lack of development we've seen from some of these kids.

Maybe they didn’t earn the reps. Fans only see them 13x/year. What if they weren’t doing the things they needed to do behind the scenes to get on the field?

Not saying that was the case but no one here knows.

No, obviously the coaches know more about the situation than we do. I can't refute that and won't attempt to.

So what will his role look like as a starter in conference play? Blocking and catching the occasional hitch/curl or bang route off the RPO and getting a deep ball thrown his way 1-2 times per game?

Oh no we’re gonna make a WR block ☹️

And catch hitches and curls ☹️

And catch passes off RPOs ☹️

And go deep ☹️

Watch the games from behind the QB view. WRs run a lot of different routes.

I’m being a little sarcastic. I’m just making a point at how predictable our passing game has been the last 2 years

Ok so it didn’t this year so it won’t next year. Spectacular logic.
I hope in wrong, but Heupel seems to be set on running a particular style of offense and not evolving it like Kiffin, Kendall Briles, or Jeff Lebby has done. We didn’t even see any different sets or motions or anything in the biggest game of his career. We didn’t line up in any condensed sets to give their defense a different look or possibly line up in 21 personnel for a few plays or anything. There’s nothing we’ve seen offensively from this staff the last 2 years that would lead anyone to believe adjustments will be made to the offense

You make it sound so easy to be successful. What team do you coach?
