Mullen not helping his cause

Lulz indeed… 😂

Your attempt to draw a parallel between post-pandemic employment opportunities and college football recruiting is noted.
There are only about a million supply-demand scenarios that illustrate what I'm talking about. Heupel still has to make the sale... but you're blind if you don't think Mullen being relatively bad at recruiting doesn't help.

But... I really shouldn't point that out. Please ignore everything I wrote. You have no worries. Mullen is great on the field and at the coffee table. You should keep him forever.

He is and always has been.

Freeze would not be hired by my company to do my job. That's not because I'm really, really "special". Most companies I've worked for will not hire people with morals compromised publicly like his were. He wasn't applying to be an auto mechanic. He was applying to lead a massive, multi-faceted organization that includes young men who need a strong, morally sound leader.

I actually like Freeze but he's going to have to spend his time in jail and redeem his reputation.

He’s at Liberty their code of conduct says morals 489 times so what gives?

They're giving him his shot at redemption. LU's stadium holds about as many people as show up for SEC spring games- 25K.

Smart move for him because they stress ethics and morals. It is probably one of his few paths back to a top program to coach for a G-5 like LU.

Mullen is a solid coach. Curious to see how the off-season goes.

I missed where I ever suggested UF keep Mullen forever, but I guess that premise is necessary to prop up your argument.

UF doesn’t let underperforming coaches stick around for very long.

Yep, he won 11 games in 2012 and only 4 in 2013 after a rash of injuries.

You could argue he should have been fired after losing to Georgia Southern, I won’t disagree.

But Muschamp was basically coaching for his job in 2014 like Mullen will be in 2022.

And by some stir of luck you’ll win the East get beat to powder in the CG and he’ll get an extension only to go back to his old ways.

Well, he’s probably right. Florida needs transfers to help Mullen. He needs to win next year bad.

I just listened to Dan Mullen’s press conference and I must say.. The Gainesville media held back nothing. Mad props.

I don't spend much time worried about why Florida is struggling, but I know that Mullen has emphasized scouting the transfer portal as much as anyone. Maybe that isn't the best way to assemble a team? Might not be a factor at all .... just a thought.

I remember a lot of folks on this site wanted him.

And we would have been MUCH better off if we did. The Gators have four 10 win seasons since Meyer left. Dan Mullen owns 2 of them, and this after taking over a program that was 4-7 the year prior to his arrival. If they were playing a standard schedule in 2020, he would likely have won 10 games again. All the while, Cornbread was cheating to bring recruits in and he still couldn't win football games.

UF is down this year, but they lost a ton of talent to the NFL. And despite what looney Florida fans want to believe, they are not on UGA and Bama's level to be able to lose several high end players to the draft and be able to keep the program running without a hitch. And yet, they have 3 losses of a 7 points or less. A little better luck, and they are 7-1 instead of 4-4. They will likely still end the year 8-4, which isn't terrible on a down year.

Mullen is a good coach. He has his warts, but the best thing for TN football would be for UF to get trigger happy and fire him. The likelihood of them hiring a better coach is slim to none.

I mean not only did he cheat to bring in elite recruits, but he also has the personal conduct baggage with the female escort biz. That's a lot of baggage for a major university to ignore. Especially in the wake of Title IX.

He might get another opportunity one day, but I think he's still got a ways to go.

Muschamp was a terrible coach that had 1 good season. But it was evident at every stop he was at that he was not a good coach. He can coach up defense though. No doubt about that.

Mullen has proven he is a good coach at 2 programs now. Even in his off year at Florida, they will likely still win 8 regular season games with a chance at 9 wins in the bowl game. The problem (much like UT) is the expectations at Florida at too high considering where the program has been since Meyer left. Mullen has had UF in the thick of the CFP race the last 2 seasons. I hope UF is dumb enough to fire him.

Agreed. I think he leans too much on the portal, and the offense was poorly managed during the 2nd half of the Kentucky game, but he is a good coach, who will turn it around. Some Gator forums are overreacting right now, but they won't fire him.

Problem is, this doesn’t appear to be the last of Mullen’s “off years”. 8-4 doesn’t cut it when your historic division rival is competing for top recruiting classes and SEC/national titles.

Our recruiting class is currently ranked 35th, which is never acceptable, let alone when UGA is cherry picking 5* kids left and right while likely cruising into the CFP.

Mullen was an early adopter on mining talent from the transfer portal, now the rest of the country has caught up.

Mullen is a PR train wreck when adversity hits. He lacks self-awareness and is often tone deaf to the most obvious of situations. It took a UGA beat down for him to finally take some accountability…after crapping the bed in consecutive years to weak LSU squads.

He won’t be fired after this season, unless he refuses to overhaul his staff. Next year if nothing changes he’s likely sent packing.
