Mullen not helping his cause

As @Lawrence Wright and others say, next year he really needs to show some progress. If he loses to South Carolina or FSU this year, the pressure will be front and center to next year.

Progress at this point is beating everyone left on the schedule, being competitive in the bowl game, and firing Grantham (and Knox) as soon as the bowl game is over.

I agree that if he loses any of the remaining 4 games, he start feeling some pressure. Those are all games that Florida should win pretty comfortably.

Granted Florida State is playing pretty good football this year despite their record. And their overall talent level is fairly similar. However, it's still is a game I would expect Florida to win by 10 points or more.

You never wanted me to be happy.

Wrong. I’ve never had issue with you.
I’ve stated on more than one occasion Mullen and Grantham are the problem and it’s 1a and 1b at this point. Given the situation they can reverse with relative ease. Mullen is stubborn and Grantham is trash. Richardson should be the guy moving forward but Marcus Vick 2.0 won’t get out of the way. That throw he mad to the corner against LSU was just beautiful.

The defense is just a mess and it starts at the top. There is simply no way you run with Bama until the end and have gotten progressively worse each week thereafter.

If Mullen doesent overhaul the staff Florida will be looking for a new HC and staff come ‘23-24

I see my sarcasm missed the mark.

That’s my bad.

Problem is, this doesn’t appear to be the last of Mullen’s “off years”. 8-4 doesn’t cut it when your historic division rival is competing for top recruiting classes and SEC/national titles.

Our recruiting class is currently ranked 35th, which is never acceptable, let alone when UGA is cherry picking 5* kids left and right while likely cruising into the CFP.

Mullen was an early adopter on mining talent from the transfer portal, now the rest of the country has caught up.

Mullen is a PR train wreck when adversity hits. He lacks self-awareness and is often tone deaf to the most obvious of situations. It took a UGA beat down for him to finally take some accountability…after crapping the bed in consecutive years to weak LSU squads.

He won’t be fired after this season, unless he refuses to overhaul his staff. Next year if nothing changes he’s likely sent packing.
So if the football team maintains the status quo, he's gone.

What scenario enables him to keep his job (or maybe even receive an extension)?

If he never comes close to winning the SEC…like ever…and treats his players like garbage, he might an extension like our WBB coach.

I've never understood why UF's WBB doesn't seem to measure up to the quality of their other programs. Does their coach have something on UF's Board of Regents (or whatever they're called)?

WBB peaked under Carol Ross back in the 90s, but never broke through to win the SEC. It’s the only program in our athletic dept without an SEC title.

Our AD gave this last knucklehead an extension in spite of losing in the court and mistreating players off the court. He’s since resigned.

Looking at next season's schedule, I see some potential pitfalls.

Utah
Kentucky
USF
Tennessee
Eastern Washington
Missouri
LSU
Georgia
Texas A&M
South Carolina
Vanderbilt
Florida State

I think it will take some improvement to finish better than 9-3 out of that schedule. The thing is, Florida has as much or more talent than most everyone on that schedule with the exception of Georgia, but I expect Mullen will crap the bed against at least one team he shouldn't, and lose to one or two teams where the talent is comparable.

It’s not you it’s me.

Sorry.

Would you consider it a neglected program or has the right coach simply not come along yet?

A little of both…you’d think we could find our version of Dawn Staley to resurrect the program, but that coach would have to win first before getting paid what they’re worth in the open market.

Unfortunately that open market has no shortage of coaching options better than UF for WBB.

Ouch. Really bad loss for UF. This is the type of loss they will force Mullen to fire some people. I still think he's a good coach, but his seat is officially hot after tonight. That's 2 blow out losses in a row to SEC East rivals.
