Mullen Out

@Jaws might be on suicide watch.
After the Bama game he was convinced Florida had arrived

Gainesville to/from flight watch, yes. Suicide watch, no.

Also, I was convinced FL had arrived even before the Bama game. I thought that at several points during Mullen’s era, and I wasn’t alone in that. Which makes the cliff-dive over the last 7-8 weeks even more stunning.

I asked LG this same question.
The wheels fell off for Donkey the same way. Is there something behind the scenes (or someone) causing this problem.

He interviewed for any opening possible last offseason. Combined with openly treating the bowl game as a scrimmage and just being overall weird, I figured this would be his last year. I just thought he would take a different job, not get canned.

Maybe. Probably. Even Meyer wigged-out at the end, even though he had been wildly successful. Muschamp got completely swallowed-up, Mac was so out of sorts he started making up stuff about death threats, and now Mullen - sailing along through 2.75 seasons, national title contender, Heisman candidate, had just waxed Georgia’s ass - to losing 9 of 11 to P5 schools.

Florida fans are notoriously toxic and unforgiving. I was NOT in on firing Mullen at all until South Carolina, then solidified vs Samford and Mizzou. But a huge chunk of gator fans wanted him gone after LSU last year.

My first sense that something was off was the Bowl game vs Oklahoma. That never sat well with me. I get that guys opted out and such, but that game was completely mailed-in and it looked like UF had not even practiced. Mullen was dismissive and unconcerned and smug about it. In hindsight, that was the beginning of the end.

When I was saying that Florida had a higher standard than Tennessee I meant it as a compliment. I’m wrong about a lot of things. Seems like I might have been wrong about that too.
The complimentary part. That high standard is chewing up coaches as fast as we do.
