Guess I've always assumed that a silent commitment had strong influence from the coaching staff. Two recent examples would be Lamaison and Nuke. Lamaison remained silent so as to not scare off potential QB recruits. Nuke remained silent (possibly) to not deal with all of the BS of being from Pahokee and going to TN. Do you not think Lane and Co. had a say in these?
Nuke visited UT 5 days before signing day. It's not like he had much time to keep a commitment silent. I don't even really think he committed right after his visit. IIRC, he even said he was "150% Gator" in an article about the visit.
But I agree with you on Lamaison.
Matt I know who you want it to be but who do you think that guy is referring to.
