Mystery silent QB commit? (merged)

Seeing how I just read an interview with him today regarding how he just called Prater for us I doubt it. Sims RTR

The people that fit the profile described by the OP would be Phillip Simms, Blake Bell, Jake Heaps, or Paul Jones. These are really the only big fish that would be a surprise and need time to announce. Paul Jones makes the most sense and would be a great prospect, but I would gladly take any of them.

P.S if i was lane and monte kiffin i would be writing recamindations for eric berrys parents to find them a job...haha he said he might come back if they found a job...
They need to move to the Knoxville area. Surely somebody in Vol country can hook them up with a job in their field...it's not like they are trying to buy Berry off...he's one season removed from the NFL, so it would just be the Vol Nation trying to help one of their own. Thought that is what family is supposed to do.

could be Paul Jones dont know if he is a big fish but you never know and all this could be bull so we'll see

Definitely a big fish. He looks better than Scroggins IMO. He just hasn't really been mentioned as a possible target for us. This makes the most sense because of the recent commitment by the other top QB to PSU. I would love to get Jones.

if i am interviewing a candidate for a job, and their last name is berry, the interview would end right there. they would get the job.

even if i didnt know about the berry's situation

Kind of like the fat chick in the bar, sitting alone until 2 AM, then, at closing time, she's in your car.

It's called options, and not being left high and dry.
Lamaison is not a fat chick...he did the right things to turn his circumstances around...and lit up his stats at one of the better JUCO programs in the country.
The kid is a leader, has a big gun, and is very accurate in all his throws. If you watch his extended highlight film...you can see that. Coach Kiffin, compared him to Jeff Garcia...not Jared Lorenzen (Pillsbury Throwboy).

Fact is, programs are generally not interested in JUCO QB's, no matter how well they develop, cause they are usually only available for 2yrs. Not enough time to bring in and mature in the system before they are gone.

It's hard enough at other positions. Plus, like Nick said...most programs assume he'd have to stay a 2nd yr. This staff has gone out on a limb on other prospects...like his teammate, Irvin...JC Copeland (who other SEC coaches said was too short to play for them), M. Pair...who has a lot of filling out to do, but the staff saw him in camp and thought he would eventually turn out to be a steal. Zach Fulton isn't very highly rated either, but coaches loved his work at camp.

Why do we dismiss Lamaison as a "Fat Chick," and yet praise them for spotting talent that other teams overlook, at other positions? Why does having a need=taking someone with little to no talent? You already have your emergency backup with Rozier.

+1. :good!: Right there with ya, brah. :)

He became my new favorite while we were waiting on Scroggins, and heard that not only has he opened up his recruiting somewhat a month or so ago, but with Robert Bolden also commiting to them (PSU), I don't see both QB's sticking. That is a VERY hard feat to pull off, and even when it occurs, it often results in one guy transferring out.

I just am really turned off by Bray's lack of athleticism...when you have all of these other prospects who have an equally big arm, and yet can pick up 1st downs with their feet when the play breaks down. Slow pocket passers are becoming a dying breed when more and more HS's and college teams are going with the spread.

Jeff Fisher said that the NFL is a "Copy-Cat" league, and that he expected more teams to try and emulate Miami's success with the Wildcat package...(the interviewer was trying to see if he could get Fisher to tell if they were going to use Vince Young in a similar manner as Ronnie Brown was used...Jeff seemed to hint that they would).

Fact is, CLK bragged about Lamaison's ability "To make plays with his feet" (much like Jeff Garcia with the Bucs last year)...so you can't tell me that it isn't an aspect CLK likes to some degree.

One of the best posts I've seen in a while.

Just remember that Peyton falls within the same category as Bray with his ability to make plays with his feet.......a great pocket passer will never be a dying breed so long as they are extremely accurate and a good decision maker

Peyton is Peyton, not just because he's an accurate passer. He is a one of a kind Cerebral dynamo. A true Coach on the field.
Peyton is like having a great Offensive Coordinator out there running the offense. He is also probably the hardest working QB in the game. These traits are what makes him great.
So, trying to equate him with Bray, just because they are both rather slow, is a real stretch. Peyton offsets his physical limitations with his mind and work ethic (not to mention great talent).
We have no such indications that Bray brings these attributes to the table...just that he has a strong arm and is accurate. I think we continue to struggle with Florida if he is ever our QB

I hope the guy on the hook (if there is one) is Paul Jones good size good arm and can run i think he could start as a freshman

I agree and from what I've been reading he seems like the most logical choice to decommit from PSU....He would be a HUGE get! :dance2: Yes better than Scroggins

I still wouldn't get my hopes up on this one. The original bestower of this rumor is just to vague. He states that Kiffin believes they have a big fish on the real. So not even the coach is sure. The poster said a silient commit, but where does that elate to a commit to another school. Even on VQ it says the same thing. All I saw over there is speculation like here to why it is a silent comment. I see people jumping the gun to assume the reason for this to be a silient commit is because he commited to another school. Again jumping the gun there because people want to believe it. Also every one is assuming a big fish means a top five QB. At this point I think a top 20 QB would be nice.

Big Fish+Silient commit doesn't = Top QB who is already commited to a school is decommiting and coming to UT. Sorry way to much reading into this. They may have a QB they are talking to but the rest is speculation and heresay that a friend of mine said so.

To be fair, this isn't the first time we've heard the Sims rumor. Someone else started it a few weeks ago and was laughed off the board.

Rumors are easy to start... Any idiot can do it... Problem in there are more rumors on this board than there are facts...

<!-- *** --><!-- body --><!-- begin --> Would he switch to Tennessee? Not a chance

Phillip Sims

After spending this week in California at the prestigious Elite 11 Quarterback Camp, Alabama quarterback commit Phillip Sims got back home to Chesapeake, Virginia around midnight last night. Sims' first order of business today was to address internet rumors that he might switch his commitment to Tennessee.
"Nah, Nah," Sims says. "Tennessee was never even in my thoughts."
With that out of the way -- and with confirmation that his commitment to Alabama is rock solid -- the 6-2, 230-pound Sims discussed his experience at the Elite 11 held at Soka University in Aliso Viejo, CA
"It went really well I thought," Sims says. "There were a lot of good quarterbacks and some good quarterback instructors out there. We worked a lot of footwork drills, hitting targets, and we had classroom work. We also went to Disney World and to Laguna Beach. We had a big barbeque. It was really nice."
As for his performance, Sims says, "I think I did well. I felt like my footwork got better every day. I also felt like I did well in the classroom. I thought I had the strongest arm of all the quarterbacks out there. I think my accuracy improved every day. I had to get used to some of the routes we were throwing. Some of the routes we don't use in our high school system, so it took me a while to adjust to those routes. But I made the adjustments."
In one event, Sims was the only quarterback to hit the target on three straight attempts. Others participating in that event were Mark Sanchez (first round NFL pick of the New York Jets from USC), Texas quarterback and Heisman candidate Colt McCoy and Illinois quarterback Juice Williams, all of whom served as instructors at the camp.
"I got into a rhythm," Sims says. "I hit the target three times in a row there. Then I got hot another time and I was the only guy to hit the target two to three times in a row. I just got into a rhythm."
This summer, Sims has attended several passing tournaments with his Oscar Smith HS team. Earlier this month he was in Hawaii for the Super Seven Quarterback Camp.
"I've got one more day of conditioning [with his high school team] and then we start practicing the next week," Sims says. "I'm ready to rest up a little and get started."
Next up for Sims is some recruiting for Alabama. Tonight, he plans to speak with the nation's top wide receiver, Kyle Prater of Hillside-West Proviso, Illinois.
