NASCAR bans the confederate flag

Private company telling certain folks to go kick rocks. I thought that was awesome on VN? Why the problem?
I don't necessarily disagree, but in the same regard, did you feel the same when the bakery denied the gay couple service? If not, then doesn't the same question of "what's changed" apply to you? Do you believe right is right and wrong is wrong, or do you believe in tit for tat? And that question applies to everyone when taking sides.

I'm not watching much in the way of sports anymore. It's a crying shame that an issue has to be addressed at an entertainment venue. I can take one look at the guys protesting and tell how oppressed they are. I don't need them to tell me. They can always take out their frustrations on their women. Isn't that what the football players do? Whip they women?

That’s actually what cops do

It’s NASCAR protecting the most important thing they have. And that’s not fan attendance. It’s their tv contracts.
I’d say all sports will eventually end up hurting theirselves in that regard.... sports are suppose to be an escape and strictly fun.... They are slowly moving away from their purpose.... eventually, I feel that they will social issue and price themselves out of existence.

I don't fly a Confederate flag, but I view it as a symbol of pride in a rural Southern way of life, a symbol of fierce independence, a symbol of defiance, a symbol being the underdog fighting against overwhelming odds, maybe a little like Don Quixote. It's like you may be able to make me sit down on the outside, but I'm still standing on the inside. The North may have won the war, but look at me, I'm still a Southerner.
Like I said, I just don't care. But I do wonder why people see the Confederate flag as a symbol and the Stars and Stripes as "just a piece of cloth"? Seems very hypocritical.

Yeah, part of the problem with having Confederate flags all over the place is romanticized revisionist garbage like this.

Imagine Germans saying “the Nazi flag really just reminds me of Hitler’s us-against-the-world mentality, very inspiring”

If a baker can deny service, any private company should be able to boot Confederate flag waving folks off their premises, or not allow them in at all.
Any business can assert the right to refuse service for any reason. I always think of the "No shirts, no shoes, no service" signs.

Do you ever consider having an actual conversation or is it always about "I know you are but what am I"? Domestic abuse is actually a big issue in the NFL. How often have we seen tapes surface of NFL players beating on women? It's as much an issue in its own right as tapes of cops using excessive force. FTR, it's okay to be outraged by both. You don't have to pick one or the other.

I agree with this. People don't watch sports for political messages or moral lessons. They watch sports to be entertained.

Truth be told, you can separate the Confederacy and Southern pride. I'm not proud that slavery once existed, but I do have pride in the South being known for being friendly, and outgoing, and laid back, as compared to the North. I've lived up North. People are generally more uptight up there. Maybe it comes from living on top of each other, I don't know, but I much prefer being back home in the South.

The NFL domestic violence rate is half the national average. The domestic violence rate among police officers leads every profession by miles. He's intentionally trolling with something that isn't true and I responded with something that is, but sure, be mad at me

Have you seen the tapes of players hitting their women? It's not pretty. We're talking about large athletes who play a violent sport. Not sure why you're trying to undersell that as if it somehow helps you make your point? I go back to what I said before. Is this about wrong being wrong and right being right, or is this a game of tit for tat?

Bingo. This is why I dont watch ESPN anymore once their talk show anchors decided they were social justice warriors I was out. I watch sporting events if my team is playing and thats pretty much it

Doesn't matter, they didn't have to talk about denying cakes to folks. The **** these folks think I'm about.

Kind of think it should matter. You can choose to be the better person, or you can choose to play in the mud. Don't be what you claim to hate.

I'm proud of my Southern hometown too, except when people start flying Confederate flags and romanticizing time periods when my relatives were treated as subhuman. Southern white people deemed themselves "friendly" while they were also lynching black people in public, because that didn't count. History in the South was this fun little collection of Americana for certain fortunate people, but was a nightmare for many others, which it looks like people are finally starting to realize.
