It's easy to be proud when you're existance is a lot more fortunate than others.

And why is our existence more fortunate? Perhaps because we had the audacity to break away and strike out on our own via the revolution.

Mexico did a similar thing only the Mexicans of Spanish decent made a play for monopoly of the government and won out. The Mexicans of Indian decent were second class citizens who outnumbered them greatly. For a variety of reasons.

Mexico has numerous resources, there is no reason the poverty level should be where it is there. Their government does a horrible job representing their people. We have made it much too easy for the disenfranchised there to come here to seek a better life. If we didn't then just maybe the people there would get fed up and demand government represent all Mexicans. The problem there is simple, it all boils down to race.

You're forgetting the liberal mantra: America is great, and thus is evil

America was made great by generations of people, from the 1770s to the 1970s, who worked hard to make sure their descendents would have a higher level of living. It's not our fault the Mexicans' ancestors weren't so hardworking and so now their country sucks.

This is one of the only forums I've read that would really have people say "no we're not lucky to be born in the usa, mexicans are just lazy."

We're lucky. They're not. Tough nuts. Our job is to keep our country great. They should work on matching that.

If possible, I think they would prefer staying home also. But in their country that is not possible.
Hard work built America. Same principal will work in Mexico. Those that strive to improve their lot in life, usually do.

Do you know what keeps Mexico in grinding poverty? Pure unadulterated corruption.

So what do you do Savage? You're born in a desolute situation. You're an average Jose with no power or authority to make changes in your country. Do you do what's best for your family or do you try and somehow be a one man wrecking crew and topple the defunct government?

Having lived in three third world countires for the past 11 years, I know (for the most part) that hard work theory will not pull them out of poverty while remaing in their native countries. It's hard to pull yourself up on less than a dollar a day.

What did the American colonists do?

Let's get more recent. What did the citizens of Russia do?

Romania? East Germany? Poland?

They rose up off their asses, and did something.

Most of the poverty I have seen is not due to laziness. Most poor people I have seen work 12 hours a day 6 days a week. I have even seen some that only get off on Sunday afternoon. A standard American job for them would be like a vacation.

I did not deny that we were not lucky to be born here. Luck only got our forefathers so far, the rest depended on their intestinal fortitude to go it alone against one of the worlds supreme powers with no promise of help in doing so.

I am simply saying that only Mexico can fix it's problems.

You honestly picked that up from my post?

When combined with vol4life's post, I picked up on it as a general forum view. I honestly didn't even bother to look that it was your post until you said something.

The USA is not responsible for Mexico's ramshackle existence. Only the people of Mexico can change things in their country. I would much rather see them do that than disrespect our nation's sovereignty and laws.

I wouldn't call Mexicans lazy. Their work ethic alone proves that false. The point I was making is that Mexico has failed the people and that only they can right the ship. Mexico has the natural resources it needs to support a much better standard of living. We have made it much too easy for them to come here and create a better standard of living for themselves. Had we not, or if we stop allowing it they just might effect change in their country.

Understood. I generally agree with this. Mexico, by all accounts, is sitting on a wealth of natural resources. They have thousands of miles of world class beaches and tropical rainforests. I see no reason why they can't have a thriving economy if they would just get up and do something about it. It's probably part the government's fault and part the people's fault. They need a reform of some sort.

In the the meantime, we should be doing what we need to do to keep Mexicans in Mexico.

The government there is controlled by Mexicans of Spanish descent for the most part. Much of the wealth is too. As for the peoples side of the fault, it lies in the fact that they have allowed this to happen.

In the the mean time, we should be doing what we need to do to keep Mexicans in Mexico.

As I see it it is the best way for us to effect the change needed for their country. Close the borders, stop illegals from working here and infusing the American currency that infuses their country with the money needed to prop up the failed government there and the people will soon demand the change the country needs.
