National day of Prayer Sept. 25, 2009?????

If every thing you said is true then that is a damning sign of the church for bowing down to pressure.

:hi:

Don't worry. In times of persecution, His church always thrives! It did in Rome, it did in Romania, it will here.

I don't relish the thought of persecution, but I will trust Him whether it be in a castle or a dungeon.

I agree with your comments... especially the social club reference... but wanting nothing to do with the community is going a bit far. I know of many churches that are doing many good things to help their communities. However, surveys and studies would support that churches are one of the biggest reasons why many people are against "religion" and do not go to churches.

I agree with your post, the easiest place to get hurt today is in the church. It all goes back to what I said a few pages ago. I have seen this happen alot over the years because people want the church to be their "private" church. But I do agree that the church does alot of work out there in the community, I know just from we do in our own and the other surrounding churches.

My first question is how do you know exactly what he said?

And secondly, the teachings can stand on their own merit, no matter who first said them.

The same way we know what Homer, Plato or George Washington said, someone wrote it down and the writings have been preserved and passed down to us. So you have to evaluate the veracity of the author and his writings.

1st: If God can create the heavens, the earth, and ourselves, how hard would it be for Him to tell a man what to write and what to place in His book?

Yes, for a believer. A way a believer's home should be run, or a marriage, how to raise your kids, again as a believer of Christ.

What purpose were the Apostles writing to other believers for? If you say to control them, what would the Apostles gain by controlling, at that time the few that believed in Christ?

Good points. I believe that much of the current court system we now have was also based on principles in the Bible. Even for the non-believer there is a great amount of knowledge in the Bible... even if you want to read it simply as another textbook. All of Proverbs, the teachings of Jesus and Solomon, provide great council whether anyone chooses to believe in Christ or not.

Weren't those genuine, first hand accounts, or written by themselves?

As far as i know, there is no Gospel of Jesus, at least not written by his own hand. The 4 Gospels are second hand accounts at best.

Agree, on the Supreme Court building itself, the man in the center holding the two tablets may be a hint!

PS, Time to leave from work, then go to church, maybe you folks will be around later tonight!

that's thousands of years you have their OE. remember no one knows when Jesus is coming back. so I can't really believe what you wrote. I see your point, but i think you get mine as well.

All I am saying is we are no where near the end times.

Things will actually be bad....

:eek:k:

Its just a fulfillment of scripture, for example: II Timothy 4:3-4; (3)For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;(4) And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

So you believe that is a mandate to close the doors and become a social club?

I agree with your last sentence, but I also don't think it does anything to show divinity or the fact that a Christian God exists.

The Council of Carthage in 397 A.D.. The books of the Bible were basically "voted" in. Everything else was considered apocryphal.

:banghead2:

Where in the world did this come from?

:dunno:

You are claiming this is where the church leaders met to discuss theocractical takeover of gov't?

Bible law is based on compensation, which is literally and eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.

If you plucked out my eye, I would get back what my eye is worth.

I wish we had something like this.

This is where I am claiming a bunch of church leaders got together and decided what the bible should really say.

No argument there, what does it have to do with volpj talking about the bible and government take over?

You quoted my Roman Occupation which was about the talk with volpj.

No one can dispute that Constantine called the council of Nicea in 325 and it ended with the cannon being chosen in 397 in Carthage.

Really?

Where has the church been since 1950?

It turned itself in to a social club that wants nothing to do with its community.

People wonder why there is such hatred for the church, do you blame them?

Where do you get your information?? Is newsweak your bible?? What church do you attend to witness such behavior???

Obviously you are rather ignorant of spiritual matters in your opinionated way.

Since it has been several pages since the topic of this thread has even been mentioned, much less discussed, I bid you adieu! :hi:

You're going to have to show me where volpj said anything about a government take over. Those were your words, he only said "in a sense".

As you agree with, the bible was chiefly put together by a council of men. What I am saying (and maybe volpj, don't want to speak for him) is that these men had ulterior motives, and whatever didn't fit their purview of christianity or would present a threat to the status quo of what was already believed wasn't included. Truth was secondary to their agenda.
