TOP EDGE-RUSHER TARGET WEIGHING OPTIONS
Four-star edge rusher
James Pearce of Julius L. Chambers High School in Charlotte, N.C., still hasn’t taken any official visits since his trip to Missouri in June, and sources close to his recruitment have indicated that he’s likely to wait until National Signing Day in February to sign. But that still might be up in the air.
Mike Ekeler, Tennessee’s outside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator, was in Raleigh, N.C., on Saturday to watch Pearce’s state championship game, and the Vols have remained in good shape with him, with Georgia and South Carolina being among their main competition.
Sources haven’t been willing to rule out that the 6-foot-5, 220-pound Pearce still could sign this week. It appears to be only an outside possibility at this point, but it’s at least worth noting, with Tennessee still looking to add at least one more edge rusher to its 2022 class. If Pearce chooses to sign early, sources believe the Vols would have a realistic shot at landing him. He attended three of their home games this season, and they have been among his top choices for months.
