'25 NC DL Isaiah Campbell (Tennessee)

Per Athlon, Jamey Chadwell, Alex Golesh and Dan Mullen are all potential candidates for the North Carolina job.
I think Chadwell is kind of stuck at Liberty right now. His system and lack of trenches won't really work at the P4 level. Shoot it's starting to get figured out at the CUSA level. I think Jon Sumrall makes a lot of sense (which would be an absolute blow to the nuts for UK fans). One thing Mack Brown struggled with was trenches and Golesh's USF teams haven't had good trenches either so there could be some hesitation there. Mullen can be picky with a good tv gig. Feels like Athlon was kinda just guessing. If I had to pick gun to head, I'd say Sumrall tbh

Hope it is Mullen. Need a coach who is a terrible recruiter at UNC so we can land the Campbells and Faizons out of the state but still a good enough coach that they keep him there for years

Hopefully UNC learns from their mistake and doesn’t hire another coach that’s been out for a minute.

Other schools SHOULD take the UT route and hire a younger guy. Golesh would be the best move for them, hands down.

Why do you hope that? I want UNC to hire a guy who allows UT to raid all the talent in that state.

I want the best for guys that coached at UT. Golesh seems like a great guy, he deserves it.

Not worried about a few kids from North Carolina.

It’s not “few kids.” It’s basically a 2nd home state. And it cranks out a lot of talent, especially in the Charlotte area. It’s becoming even more talented. When Tennessee is good, it’s chock full of Carolina talent.

I like Golesh too. Hope he does well, as long as it doesn’t hurt UT.

We aren’t getting them anyways.

Since 2018, this is how many top 20 kids from UNC we’ve landed
2018: 0
2019: 2
2020: 0
2021: 0
2022: 1
2023: 2
2024: 0
2025: 2, potentially 3 with Campbell.

I hope Golesh gets the job.

And WHEN we’ve been good, we’ve landed a lot. And if not a lot, we’ve cherry picked some really good talent.

Look at the 2026 class top targets. We’re in on more NC kids than any other state, with the possible exception of Georgia.

Glad you want Golesh to succeed. I prefer Tennessee succeeds. But maybe they aren’t mutually exclusive.

Like Butch and Dooley?

"Not worried about a few kids from North Carolina" we'd be hurting pretty bad if we only had half the kids from NC that we've pulled lately. Pearce, Brandon, Sanders, Hobbs, Jaylen Wright, Hooker. That's just top ranked guys and guys who've made an impact. From 2022-2026, kids from North Carolina are #1 in our class 3/5 years (Pearce, Sanders, Brandon). And 1 year they're the number #2 recruit (Hobbs behind Nico).

We are cherry-picking that state better than any other school right now. We don't need to lose that.

I doubt it’ll affect us too much, If proximity to home and big time ball is what NC kids are looking for they’ll come play here rather than the trash ACC. When was the last time UT went head to head against UNC for a recruit and came up empty?

If you can't recall it's because UNC has been a dumpster fire. That's the point. If UNC is good, it makes it harder. In the previous decade the best NC kids have been going to Clemson mostly. Now we are getting them. But if you look at their state rankings you'll see the top 20 kids are going to P4 programs nationwide. We're plucking from their Top 3 pretty much every year now.

One of the things Butch had to do when he started was stop letting the top TN kids leave. And he did that initially then lost it. Heupel has done it effectively, only not taking kids when we had a better alternative (Jared Curtis vs Faizon Brandon).

The new coach at UNC is going to use the same blueprint. Lock down the best players in North Carolina. If their staff are good recruiters and if they make a good hire that will affect us.

Keep cherry picking them then. We aren’t going to lose that unless some Urban Meyer type coach walks into that job.

This has been the best 5 years of UNC football in a LONG time and we are still getting those guys. Even when they SUCK we aren’t landing 5+ top guys from that state.

Golesh won’t come in and change anything that already hasn’t been happening is what I’m saying. Again, hope he gets it, he isn’t going to hurt us in recruiting in that state, especially with NIL.
