And honestly defensive line is more of a need for us next year than o-line given how many seniors we're gonna lose and the lack of young guys ready to step up. I like the young depth on our o-line more than our interior d-line.

How do you know how many young guys will be ready to step up on either line?

No way we don’t get him now. Surely. Mack Brown is done this year. Could that be a landing spot for Banks tho? His recruiting area and very familiar.

What interior defensive lineman do we have who will be back next year other than Hobbs and Moi? Nathan Robinson? I guess he could develop.

We're solid at edge rusher and strong side defensive end for next year. But interior d-line will be a significant hole since Eason, Thomas, Norman-Lott, and Simmons are all set to graduate. We're gonna need to get at least 2 instant impact guys from the transfer portal like Norman-Lott in 2023.

Jaxson Moi, Daevin Hobbs, Jayson Jenkins, Carson Gentle, Jamal Wallace. Tyre West could probably play inside if needed. No doubt we need additional depth, and probably at least one instant impact transfer. We lose a lot, but we aren't bare bones, either.

Gentle is 250 lbs. That's too small to play inside. Jenkins is 280 lbs but built lean. I think he's a strongside defensive end only. West can jump inside. There's nothing about Wallace to suggest he can contribute. No we are super thin at defensive tackle going into next year. We're gonna need to spend big money in the portal at that position to get impact players.

Now the good news about losing 4 seniors at one position is all 4 look like they'll be drafted. So in 2026 we'll be able to tell recruits that we just had 4 defensive tackles get drafted in a single year. That should make us a top destination for the best defensive lineman.

Eason could come back next year but if he keeps playing the way he has been playing he is likely gone. Would need at least 1 if not 2 DT transfers next year.

Jenkins appeared to be lined up "inside" on every down I saw him play. Did I miss something?

And yes, Gentle is too thin to play there at 250, but he won't be 250 this time next year. And I'm not saying he's someone you have to rely on in your two-deep, necessarily.

Not sure what you're basing your opinion on with Wallace. You've barely seen him play, and that's not really an indictment on him given what's in front of him. He's played in 2 games and made plays in both of them.

Jenkins was at SDE on his half sack. He lined up "inside" on the safety bc we had a 5 man front. We rolled Spillman down on that play.

Jenkins can play either the 5 tech or the 3 tech. I’d like to see him add 10 lbs and play inside next year because he’s needed there more. Wallace looks promising. He’ll redshirt. Robinson has gotten good reviews in preseason. They’re high on him.

Right now, I’d guess the DT rotation in 2025 will be Hobbs/Moi, Jenkins/Wallace, Robinson/portal. That’s if no freshmen are ready to crack into the rotation, but I’m guessing one or two will.

On3’s No. 3 ranked defensive lineman and No. 31 prospect overall Isaiah Campbell has the Vols near the top of his list. As On3’s Chad Simmons reported, Campbell will take his official to Knoxville the weekend of Oct. 18. He also has a November trip set to North Carolina. Campbell has been eyeing a Tennessee visit for awhile and following his decommitment from Clemson over the weekend he’s now free to take it. Simmons wrote on Saturday he likes the way this is developing for the Vols and I do too.
