You probably can’t speak on this but I’ll ask anyways.
Was this a case of someone (agent or handler) shopping him out to Ohio State still or just Ohio state staying in constant contact and getting him to consider flipping? Did we just not grease every palm and have a handler get pissed or was this all Ohio State working to get him?
Just really weird given how many times he’s been at Tennessee, the package for family to be able to see all his college games, him peer recruiting for us so hard.
not going to answer for him, but i think to your first question, it's probably a combination of both. i know OSU didn't stop recruiting him, and whatever it was that got the agent or whoever to get this visit done, was enough to put them back in play. but i still contend that the reasons he committed here to begin with, haven't changed. i think if anything, our position should be enhanced by all the things that are going on with UT, the athletic department and direction of this program. the recruiting is strong, we have QB's lined up, the future at RB, WR, TE all look good. and if he sticks, we have the foundation for the O line. as it stands today, Tennessee looks to be in position to compete at the top of this conference for the foreseeable future.
i'm left to wonder, then, what's changed with OSU? and why is it only now that change occurred, why not do whatever it is now, back in the summer?
so while i'm not thrilled about this development, i still have to believe/hope that this is a "make sure" visit, moreso than all the sudden Tennessee is in the dumpster or something, or something has changed so drastically at TN that makes us fall off to the point that he's going to flip.....if this is just the agent looking for a bigger commission %, fine. but the family will still make the decision that's best for them. and i think that's an important thing to remember. the agent or whatever is looking at the "best deal", and if OSU has something to listen to, listen. doesn't mean it turns in to change.
obviously, there's a ton of information none of us are aware of, so we're all left to speculate. so absent something we're not aware of, i think that's where i have to land on this......and in the end, he may flip. if so, that would suck. and i think there would have to be some pretty hard questions needing answered, because with his recruitment...i don't think, at least up to this point, you could have ever said a negative word about how Tennessee did here with Sanders. this was a top notch recruiting effort, we got him in the boat, and to leave the class a week before signing day, would be a hard pill to swallow, considering all of that.
This is a loss if he flips. He is the kind of HS OL you want to have because he is probably ready to play as a Fr. However as the Vols and other programs are discovering, the portal is the best place to fill your OL needs. Oddly enough, it seems to be OLs who leave for greener pastures as much as any other position. The old model of "building" OLs for a couple of years before they play may not work any more.
i think it can still work, but i think the point you might be making is it doesn't have to be the way you do it anymore. which i agree with, and if he does flip, i think we're definitely looking in the portal to fill holes...we may even if he sticks. but you're right, you don't have to wait 3 years, if you use the portal correctly, for your OL to develop....
unless you're Dabo, 'cause "the portal is bad".
