'25 NC OT David Sanders (Tennessee commit)

The horse is dead already….not looking forward to non stop posting like this for the next week till signing day 😫
Have no earthly idea what you are talking about. There was a time when I got caught up in the "drama" of recruiting... then I realized how completely stupid it is to do so. Even more so with the portal. There was a time when missing a kid like this impacted your program for 4 years. Now it doesn't even have to hurt for one if you get the right guy out of the portal.

This is obviously a power play for more money. I'm not gonna condemn the young man for that. Anyone in his situation would do the same. With that said, I hope we don't overpay like Michigan did for Bryce Underwood. Giving a huge portion of your recruiting budget to unproven talent no matter how highly regarded will ultimately prove to be dumb as time passes.

Right now NIL is new so people are moving wild. As the years pass teams will become wiser. I think we should stick to our original deal and if Ohio State wants to overpay let them. Let's use the money that was supposed to go Sanders to sign proven guys in the transfer portal or flip a couple of other recruits who might not be as highly rated but have potential.

I personally like the potential of our young tackles like Jermais Heard. He's more physically gifted than even Sanders. Just get some proven vets in next year and continue to develop the young guys.
Damn. I forgot about Heard. Couple of portal guys until he/Warren/Ginther and Perry cook a little longer.

i think it can still work, but i think the point you might be making is it doesn't have to be the way you do it anymore. which i agree with, and if he does flip, i think we're definitely looking in the portal to fill holes...we may even if he sticks. but you're right, you don't have to wait 3 years, if you use the portal correctly, for your OL to develop....

unless you're Dabo, 'cause "the portal is bad".
If I were king of a football empire... the two things I would not do is draft college QBs or sign a HS OLs other than those I expected to compete to start as FR. Let someone else take that risk and sort them out. There will be enough great OLs available just scavenging FCS to build an elite OL. There was a time when those guys were just misses... but no more. You have a 2nd chance to get them.

While I don’t necessarily agree with Dabo’s approach to shutting down other visits once you’ve committed, I certainly don’t blame the guy.
well, he can't really shut down other visits. as is the case with the DL that just visited us and UNC. i think that approach is archaic and ultimately will push kids away from clemson, or they'll decommit later on, and use clemson as leverage/spot holder. obviously clemson will still get kids to go there, and they'll continue to get good ones. but it's not like Clemson has been this recruiting juggernaut the past 15 years like Bama, OSD, and UGA(over the last 6 or so years) where they're always in the top 3. clenmson is in and around the top 10-15 consistently. they play in a terrible conf, and they've been fortunate that they've gotten some high level players a key positions...QB, WR, DL in particular. in the ACC, that can win you a lot of games.

but for the majority of kids that have a lot of options, they're going to hear "no more visits or else"....a lot of them are gonna be like "cool...Or else it is".

agreed. 2 hardest positions to evaluate from level to level is QB and OL. and drafting a QB....yikes...that's been a crap shoot these days. experience for OL is so big. gotta develop chemistry with the other 4 guys, the QB, RB' etc...OL is tough. it's just not a plug and play position for most.

Nothing personal with what you said because I completely agree just sucks this will be convo for the next week in this thread. I’ve been following recruiting since Eric berry’s class so I definitely know the ups and downs over the years and luckily we do utilize the transfer portal pretty well

Check out his natties while you are there as well.
There’s some hand-wringing in Clemson regarding commits who have left, despite that policy. Been quite a few. So I don’t think it means as much now as it did in the pre-NIL days. Of course, that mega church preacher who was heavily involved in Clemson football had his fall from grace about that time, so it coincides with their recruiting direction

This just feels like an agent using leverage to get the best deal. We’re being squeezed. We have no time to replace him as if he were replaceable anyways; Ohio state on the other hand has a great class but their Oline recruiting this class want great. Two teams that need him and the agent is leveraging that.

I’m not going to bother anyone on Thanksgiving week before the game that decides whether we go to our first ever 12 team playoff, but at 3 today our coaches still believe he’s coming here. They were notified that he was going to OSU last weekend and they don’t think he’s visiting again. He has had some doubt and wanted to hear them out. Right now they believe he’s too close to too many signees, players and coaches and will commit officially on the 4th. OSU is on his ass 24 hours a day and throwing everything at getting him. Anything can change. Right now, the read is that he’s sticking with his commitment. I don’t know anymore than that and don’t plan on talking to anyone again til Monday.

We be fine here IMHO. Ever think he and his family wanted to give OSU one last hard look before signing on the dotted line?
Its a big decision, and they have continued to recruit him hard.
I do not think we were surprised he took the visit and, as SF confirmed, he has stayed in touch with our staff through the process, and continues to do so.
He is not talking to the recruiting services which is not the same as going silent on our coaches.

I agree if he takes another visit there this weekend, flipping becomes more likely.
