Not going to be 28. NCAA is crediting 16 scholarships that UT held back as a self-imposed penalty. It will only be 2-3 scholarships per year over the five year period. Roster will drop from 85 scholarships max to 82 or 83 max.

Well, that's not so bad at all.

I should have been zero. Take them to court. Why would anyone cooperate with the NCAA ever again?

Because we committed over 200 violations, many of them Level One violations. We were never going to skate with little to no penalties.

That's correct ... but it needs to be emphasized that the number is 12. A lot of media outlets are reporting 28.

Agree! We got off very light. I think some think we still have to give up 28 scholarships, which isn't true since we got credited with 16. This was basically a slap on the wrist. Could have been much worse. Imagine if we hadn't cooperated!

They are not reporting TN has self imposed Scholarship reductions (16)? Honestly it doesnt surprise me. Danny White needs a raise for preparing the program for this.

The recruiting limitations hurt the most. ie; loss of eval days and ov's. But no bowl ban and it's done. Screw the ncaa, moving on.

From what I've seen, there's no longer a 25 number every year. It's based off total scholarships.

The narrative that has emerged since Pruitt's dismissal has been that the school discovered the cheating and acted immediately to report and correct the issues. The administration was portrayed as a victim, innocent and eager to cooperate with the NCAA's investigation. If this is true, then some of this punishment seems excessive.

I suspect that the investigation revealed that the wrong-doing involved more than just Pruitt and his coaches. And if that's the case, then we should probably be glad it's not worse.

I hope now we'll learn more about what actually happened and which players were involved.

Would imagine year 1. Since the 5 yrs probation consists of losing 12 more scholarships. But honestly not sure.

Not having to pay Pruitt a buyout makes it a wash, basically. Yeah, we lost money ... but that's what happens when you make bad hires. We paid Butch Jones $8.26 million.

28 lost scholarships spread over 5 years is tough but manageable. Heupel can't afford many busts.

Not sure I understand the scholarship reductions. On its face, it could be interpreted that a reduction of 28 scholarships would mean 28 per year every year for the next 5 years. That would mean we'd be down to 57 maximum scholarships per season - ignoring any credit we receive for past self-imposed reductions.

This is a virtual death knell.

Alternatively, it could be interpreted that it's 28 total scholarship equivalent years over a 5 year period. This would mean a loss of less than 6 per year less any credits over the next 5 years.

Anyone *know* for certain what the scholarship language means?
