NCAA investigation status

If I were Donnie Tindall I would be at my lawyer’s office asap. No way he got 10 years and cornbread only got 6.
Big difference is he was caught deleting e-mails, asking coaches to help him cover it up and other deceit. Ask Pearl how that works with the NCAA. Another bullet point for Plowman not to hide allegations basically slapped down on her desk. It’s always more the coverup…

So our scholarship limit will be 83 instead of 85 for the next 5 years?
I'm turrible with math, but I think it's 2 for this year then 10 over the next 5 so essentially we'll be at 83 for the next 6....I think.

Not sure I understand the scholarship reductions. On its face, it could be interpreted that a reduction of 28 scholarships would mean 28 per year every year for the next 5 years. That would mean we'd be down to 57 maximum scholarships per season - ignoring any credit we receive for past self-imposed reductions.

This is a virtual death knell.

Alternatively, it could be interpreted that it's 28 total scholarship equivalent years over a 5 year period. This would mean a loss of less than 6 per year less any credits over the next 5 years.

Anyone *know* for certain what the scholarship language means?
Key word is "total" of 28 over 5 years. We're still very much alive. No death knell.

Exactly. This is great news considering the rules that were broken. Glad this is over. And I damn sure don't care about a very few wins that will be taken away.

You know Bama fans are loving it. They’ve been wanting to get back at us somehow ever since the incident in the 90’s even though it wasn’t only us involved. Oh well, lesson learned, never hire or trust a Bammer.

Not really. They are mad we didn't get worse. Was just a slap on the wrist.

Random though on the scholly reductions...... is there anything to stop Spyre from paying a kid's tuition to come to UT as a walk-on? I thought I once read somewhere that a BYU booster was paying kids to come there as walk-ons and giving them a full ride and basically circumventing the scholarship limit.

I’m confused by the people that think we got hit hard. I think we got more than deserved considering the cooperation from the start, but I also think this was about what we expected once we knew there would be hearings.

Yep. My biggest disappointment was that we couldn't have thrown butchie boi in with the guilty parties and gotten his sorry arse canned, too.

I believe you are right! Luckily it doesn't go against the 25 rule since that's no longer around. So depending on our 85 number, we could potentially sign 25 and be under the 83. Obviously that depends on what our total scholarship number is. But with NIL you have more ways to manipulate that number.

Right! That would have been the icing on the cake! I'm just glad it's over. No more negative recruiting against us and having the outcome lingering. Now time to move on and let Coach Heup keep building us a winner!

No post season ban and a manageable number of scholly reductions is good news IMO. The negative press is not great, but at least it's over and behind us. According to ESPN, the 8 million is believed to be the stiffest fine ever levied by the NCAA. I'm sure UT can setup a $100 per month payment plan! :)

We actually come out 5 million ahead by not paying Pruitt’s buyout.

Right there with you. Anyone that thinks we got hit hard should go back and look at the 80s and 90s teams on probation. Alabama numerous times, Auburn, Fla USC, SMU etc. A bowl ban and tv ban would be getting hammered. 28 more scholarships Without the 16 credit would have sucked but luckily it's only 12 more instead of 28 more. We got off easy and I guarantee White and everyone else in the AD department is happy with this outcome. A lot of infractions were committed. If this happened 25 yrs ago we are looking 1 or 2 years bowl ban. 30 yrs ago there would have been a tv ban. I'll take this result all day!

Might be somewhat negative, but at least it's accurate now. One only knows how bad opposing coaches have been making it sound on the recruiting trail. I'd bet some were saying we were the next SMU death penalty case.
