NCAA penalties will be?

Can you prove otherwise. You're just speculating. Hamilton would have to be a moron toblie at the Presser saying Bruce came clean and this is a precedent. The NCAA didn't pressure Pearl, burner phones are impossible to trace, and unless Bruce had somebody on the inside telling him they found out he lied then it seems he really came clean. But lets act as though he is scum.

His assistants were being interviewed, and he probably realized there was a good chance that inconsistencies between statements would begin to emerge. So he caved.

If it was just his pure-as-the-wind-driven-snow soul that pushed him, why did it take 3 weeks? Why did he commit the infractions in the first place?

How's life in Fairy Tale Land? Do you get to ride on magic unicorns every day and sprinkle fairy dust wherever you so choose?

That's right Scribbley...the truth would have came to light, he had no choice but to come clean or lose his job.

The good news is that all our worries about Bruce leaving for .... will go away for the forseeable future. It will take a few years for this perception to wear off, unless the Kitty Kats are looking for someone to rebuild their program in a couple years after Cal is finally exposed. They don't seem to care about the reputation of their coaches!

Jacqui Pearl will serve a two year ban during which time she will not be permitted to sing the National Anthem before UT home basketball games. She will also not be allowed to sing along with whomever does sing the National Anthem if the game is nationally televised.

Winner winner chicken dinner. My favorite post of the night. Too many peeps being far too serious tonight

I dont think they will care much about the fines. Its not like the moneys going to them or charity. What will help is no off campus visits. We all know the kids that rely on parents opinions before picking a school want the coach to sit down in their living room.

So you think him and his assistants weren't smart enough to get their stories straight before? You can say I'm in a fairyland but you have nothing to back your claim. Tell me how they would've traced the burner phones?

And for the 3 week nonsense I think all of us can say its taken us more time to admit we were wrong about something.

Can you give facts because I'm waiting.

Has it crossed your mind that maybe, just maybe, this is deeper than a damn phone?

Has it crossed your mind that Pearl said he turned a minor thing into something major? Sounds like just phones.

I'll defer to hat, but I will say this.

Rumor has it around Knoxville that UT may escape major football penalties by working to help nail Kiffin/Orgeron. Surely you don't think that if Pearl lied another school would be more than willing to nail him hard if they could get out of trouble? You think every incident occurs in a vacuum and other schools don't know what is going on?

And excuse me if I find Pearl's tack record a bit troubling.

But like I said, enjoy living in Fairy Tale Lane. It's got to be fun.

Yea. I'll take the word of a snitch any day of the week. You can't honestly believe he would admit more guilt do you? Don't answer it. It's rhetorical.

Yes hat knows everything especially accusing Pearl of conspiracies in falsifying academic transcripts and making ramar a fall guy for Tyler Smith. Seems very credible for a guy that has hated pearl from the beginning and somehow knows all this dirt on him. Who is living on fairy land now?

Not sure. But these clowns acting as if bruce fell on the sword noble style need to be slapped back to reality.

What do you mean?

He cheated but it's totally cool, cause he admitted to it, right before they kicked in the door.

I'll trust hat before someone living in Fairy Tale land every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I know I just love when people realize they've done wrong just before the walls come crashing down on them. Reminds me of the people from growing up who "came to Jesus" after they got caught doing something bad and then you never saw them at church again after they said they were sorry and "rededicated their life". Always amazed me how that worked out.

Verc it is a bit surprising to hear you call me a sanctimonious holy man. The only time I can remember any Bible thumping was more cultural when I thought it was disgusting for men on this message board to be publicly discussing another mans wife like she was a piece of meat. I did not know when I defended her and said she was not like Britney Spears that she may well have been whoring it up with anyone who winked at her while working out at Ft. Sanders...

Are there other religious arguments I have forgotten?

I'm not going to bother digging up threads, but I've been in arguments with you before about how important you think it is to have a strong Christian as coach, about how women don't own their own sexuality and they're all either virginal or whores (that was an Erin Andrews thread you started), about how awful it was that last year's coaches were drinking, etc. You've made your righteousness abundantly clear.

Bruce Pearl did not come forward because he was caught. He came forward because he has a conscience.

If Pearl came forward because his conscience was burning a hole in his pocket, and all this stuff went down in June, then how come he and Hamilton waited all summer so they could try to bury it on a Friday afternoon right as the football season kicks off in earnest? His conscience could wait until the most convenient timing?

Yes because hat is credible when it comes to Pearl. Can you tell me how he knows so much about a person he doesn't like. Is it because he has connections in a basketball program led by a man he hates? All we know is Bruce admitted he lied awhile ago, it was over phones, and Hamilton said he admitted it and said Pearl set a precedent by telling them he mislead them. The NCAA cannot track burner phones and all of you are speculating on everything else.

You do realize Pearl went 3 weeks after he said it and not just here recently, right?

When he went to the NCAA is immaterial. There's a reason they waited to tell the public about it until today. Come out with it in June and Tennessee talks about it for weeks; wait a couple of months until late on Friday afternoon right before the first real UT football game of the year (and the first NFL weekend) and you can guarantee that it'll only be the biggest topic of conversation in Tennessee for less than a day. By Monday this'll be yesterday's news across the state -- which, of course, is what they intended. They circled this day on the calendar a long time ago.

I find it hard to trust people who are clearly trying to get me to look elsewhere while they're talking.

I'll say this. We shouldn't hold Pearl to higher standard than we hold ourselves. Is lying wrong? Yes. Have any of you lied before? Yes. Regardless of his position as a representative of the University of Tennessee, he is still human. Those casting stones should open their windows. I don't agree with what he did, but I'm also not going to turn my back on him for doing something that I honestly believe that he regrets. He should be on a short leash, and be doubly sure that he clears his closet of all skeletons, especially in light of his turning in another school for breaking the rules. For that alone, he should hold himself to a higher standard. We should let this all play out and offer a forgiving spirit as we would want another chance to be afforded ourselves.

If I made a similar level lie at my job, I would be in serious trouble, and possibly face life-altering ramifications. And my job is not nearly as lucrative or publicly viewable.

We all lie, but to break the rules, lie about it, and then "confess it" when it was clear the jig couldn't go on forever is not a skeleton that should be overlooked like lying about your speed at a traffic stop. He's being paid a lot of money to do a very high profile job. He's really screwed up.
