NCAA penalties will be?

Jacqui Pearl will serve a two year ban during which time she will not be permitted to sing the National Anthem before UT home basketball games. She will also not be allowed to sing along with whomever does sing the National Anthem if the game is nationally televised.

That would be bad. We have a much better record when she sings. The horror!

I don't disagree. I would be fired as well from my job. However, I do not directly generate millions of dollars in revenue from my position. You have to take what good he has done into account. I don't think this one misdeed is enough to have the entire fan base turn their back on him, because two years from now if this all blows over and we are playing in the Final Four, the same people calling for his head will be the ones cheering the team on. To me, you are either all in with him, or you're not, and if you're not, then remember that down the road when he leads this team to success. You don't have to agree with what he did, and I don't, but I refuse to turn my back on him until I know all the facts and the penalties are handed down in full. Too many "fans" are jumping the gun on him and I think it is very hypocritical, especially knowing that many of those same people will be cheering him on if this all blows over. A lot of us are way too reactionary.

Don't worry 90% support him... it's the 10 percent that try to be the most vocal.

Go ahead and have your prediction...

I predict we do not lose a single scholarship and we are not banned from postseason play.

They will not find a lack of institutional control and the punishment dealt by the University will be deemed significant.

This is not a bag of cash to a recruit or a family member.

This is excessive texts...

As always, you know everything before any one else does. Until the investigation is complete, it would be foolish to predict sanctions. If there are other issues, our self-imposed sanctions won't touch what the NCAA will do.

I think that honor goes to hat... he knows all the juice on the coach he hates somehow.

I'll say this. We shouldn't hold Pearl to higher standard than we hold ourselves. Is lying wrong? Yes. Have any of you lied before? Yes. Regardless of his position as a representative of the University of Tennessee, he is still human. Those casting stones should open their windows. I don't agree with what he did, but I'm also not going to turn my back on him for doing something that I honestly believe that he regrets. He should be on a short leash, and be doubly sure that he clears his closet of all skeletons, especially in light of his turning in another school for breaking the rules. For that alone, he should hold himself to a higher standard. We should let this all play out and offer a forgiving spirit as we would want another chance to be afforded ourselves.

Of course he regrets it now that he has been caught.

Caught by who? Himself? All I know is what has been said publicly and that he doubled back his account of things on his own accord. Like Griffith stated in his blog, he had other options. He could have let things play out. He could have resigned for "personal reasons." He could have taken another job, and believe me, his name was hot as any following the Elite Eight run he had.

Yea, I'm sure the letter of inquiry had nothing to do with his decision to come clean. Come on folks, he wanted to save his job. That's why he came clean. If anyone thinks the NCAA is going to buy a reduction in salary as enough, I've got some swamp land in Florida I'd like to talk to you about.

You do know he came clean before the loi right?

"I've got some swamp land in Florida I'd like to talk to you about."

You do realize that this statement makes no sense, right? That tells me about all I need to know about your level of intellect. (And if you don't know why it doesn't make sense, that's even more comical.)

Verc it is a bit surprising to hear you call me a sanctimonious holy man. The only time I can remember any Bible thumping was more cultural when I thought it was disgusting for men on this message board to be publicly discussing another mans wife like she was a piece of meat. I did not know when I defended her and said she was not like Britney Spears that she may well have been whoring it up with anyone who winked at her while working out at Ft. Sanders...

Are there other religious arguments I have forgotten?

My point on the phones is that the NCAA cannot hammer you for that. They can get mad that you lied, but not when you came forward and told them while they were still clueless.....

The NCAA is not capable of figuring out burner phones. They never will be able to. If coaches got more efficient they could use VOIP and bounce it and the NCAA would not be able to afford the computer to help, but burner phones work for them the same reason they work for the drug dealers...

As long as Pearl did not sign it "Coach Bruce Pearl" there is no way to say who was texting, and even if he did sign it, there is no way to prove a rival fan did not buy a phone at Walmart in Knoxville to screw with us....

Bruce Pearl did not come forward because he was caught. He came forward because he has a conscience.

Based on what?

Weird when people make things up.

Based on more credible evidence than those who claim he had "been caught" have provided.

I'm not saying that his conscience is really why he came clean, but it is the only reason that we have been given. There is no proof otherwise, so it would be foolish to claim that he had been caught. He had other choices. Let it play out. Keep lying. Do anything else. Yet, he came clean and on his own accord. We may never know the real reason why, but as of now, the only reason we have been given, is because he felt guilty.

But why stick with that when we can come up with a juicy story of why he admitted it. People want to bash him based on their own speculation which is hilarious to me. Great post!

I'm not going to believe the guy who lied to begin with.

I have nothing against Pearl. I'm glad he came to Tennessee. That said, I've always felt he was a snake. It's gotten worse the past couple of years. He screwed Tyler Smith over his first year on the job, cheated to get Ramar Smith after that, cheated on his wife, and now this. People make mistakes, but it's ironic the guy who is accusing others of cheating has this all blow up in his face.

Just like Dooley screwed Bryce brown? Can you provide proof of ramar?

So you think a guy that admitted a lie is going to lie again to risk his career?

Once again dumb speculation.

And that's fine. I don't expect you to believe him. He probably doesn't expect it either. Trust is a funny thing, in that it has to be earned. Some are more forgiving than others. It will take time and some may never forgive him. It may be that he never deserves our respect again. Only time will tell. I think it's a little short-sighted to make that determination right now.

I'm fine with a coach not letting a player out of his signing. I wouldn't. However, setting up a secret meeting with Tyler Smith at his high school so his dad wouldn't find out was cheap.

Because his dad had such an admirable track record and was doing his son a favor. How about you learn what kind of father his dad was for most of his life before you bash Pearl on seeing what Tyler wanted.
