NCAA Regionals hosted by the Lady Vols Softball Team

They didn't play a lot of top competition but when they did they played them close. Lost to Florida State 2 to 0. I think they lost a close game to UCLA also had a couple good wins.

Even with that being said to lose 3 or so in conference shows that they are not very strong. I don't know who is in the tourney from their conference.

This game allows you to take the rest of the day off while the other teams play. If Ohio State beats Longwood then they come back and play Upstate and the winner of that has to beat Tennessee twice tomorrow. Huge win.

This game was full of controversial calls. I'm glad we won but this umpire crew was the worst ever and if I am a coach at Tennessee I'm still turning in the film of the play at the plate and the runner interference.

Yep. And I like how Karen was candid about it when asked. That call at HP wasn't even controversial-- it was 100% a bad call. Can't miss a call like that.

AMEN brother! It's the worst called game on the bases I've ever seen...just sickens me to see crap like that in the playoffs!

Their whole game is pitching both their starting pitchers came in with era's around 1.40. We got a taste of that today as they throw a lot of off speed stuff and change speeds on every pitch. I kept thinking we would catch up with it never did she got wild walked some batters and he made a change.

Their pitching is very good...but they are also 10th in the nation in team defense. That alone will win you a lot of ball games.

Yep they have to install some kind of rule instant replay or something to prevent that type of call. He never saw the play couldn't have he just assumed she touched the plate because we lost the ball for a couple seconds. You can't have that in a tournament game. You also can't have a runner run into your fielder and no call.

Karen heats up like a two dollar pistol on Saturday night. She will let you know what she thinks...Ralph has to "whisper" her back down to earth on occasion.

TN was one out away from having to win three in a row. Instead they just need to win one of two games on Sunday. That turnaround was about like the Georgia football game.

Still have to close it out tomorrow.

Had we not pulled that one out of the hat I don't think we'd have made it to the Supers...which would be a shame. If we hope to get to OKC our bats 5 through 8 have to wake up. Our 9 hitter is fine as are our first 4, but man if they aren't "on" we are cooked meat.

The problem for Upstate is that we have gotten a lot of looks at their pitchers now and the stuff she throws is not overpowering you have to time it. We got some good licks on the ball early always at someone or hitting under the ball for fly balls. You have to straighten that out into a drive and you'll have her out of the game quickly.

I think we need Bearden at DH instead of McSwain. Seggern and Lockman seventh and eight in the order as we really have no one to replace them with need Seggern because of her defense.
I can understand Seggern having a tough time she is a freshman probably hitting a wall long season. Lockman should be better started the season great then went into the slumps of all time hasn't hit in a while although that walk she got was so huge today.
Geer is the huge concern she hasn't hit much in the last few weeks down to .300 has always been a .340 or higher hitter.

I'm not sure why it is so hard for hitters to sit on an offspeed pitch if you are facing a pitcher that throws a lot of them.

that was our biggest rally in a long time. Oh, my. Bearden with the clutch single, and Leach (my favorite player) with a home run. Most underrated player in America. Then Gregg.

There was talk on the robo board about the call at the plate and some suggestion that our player (catcher, pitcher?) //pushed// the runner when tagging her, and that's why she was called safe. I've never, ever heard of that, so don't know and didn't see the play.

Minnesota just had a golden opportunity to beat bama. Minny got its first hit against Osorio in the 8th, had runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs, I believe, after a great 14-pitch walk by their 9 hitter, but couldn't score. Osorio had a 3-2 pitch with the bases loaded and 2 outs, and she threw a strike that the Minnesota batter hit fairly well on the ground, but straight to first base. Pulling for the gophers!

McSwain will never be a good hitter with her swing. Will hit the occasional home run, but not much more than that. Drop Geer to 7th and send her a message. Maybe she'll respond. She's been awful. We can't afford for her to be awful. What a comeback--still stunned.

You are right she wont. The sad part about it Geer has been more down than up this whole year. As a senior you would hope this not to be the case but it I what it is. I would drop her at least 7 or 8 and not worry about it. I am sure she has been a great role model for the team so she has contributed that way I guess. Lockman did not look as bad today as she has in the past but still no production and as usual had a couple of past balls. I am always nervous when Seggern comes to the plate because you never know what you get. Plays defense with a lot of aggressiveness which I like but she made a cardinal fundamental mistake today by running that runner toward home. Ump screwed that call royally but he should not even had to make a call in that instance. JMHO as always.:bottom::jawdrop:

Question for DP. Why were we the visiting team today? The other regionals the host team was home as long as they won I think.

Honestly, having watched Megan Geer closely for the last two years I think she just may be burned out on softball. She just doesn't radiate any energy this season when she comes to the plate. We know she has the skills but she seems almost disinterested or perhaps indifferent. She has become quite the enigma.

Nope. They alternate every game. Same thing in the super regionals. But, being the host, we are always the home team 1st and 3rd game

Did not happen in the Alabama game with Minnesota or ole misss and Arizona state or auburn and cal . Florida regional or Kentucky or florida state or Arizona. Not sure about any others at this time. Ucla was visitor in their 2nd game.

Some of these series start on saturday and thursday. I maybe wrong about the host always being home the 1st game. But, I know for a fact it either alternates or they flip a coin. Just because u are the host does not mean u are always the home team

Not to argue but why would the team seeded in their regional be the away team starting?

You are right. I expected us to always be the home team, too. But, I remember UT being the away team in the regional we hosted last year and wondering why
