NCAA Regionals hosted by the Lady Vols Softball Team

I will venture a guess. Bearden is back, may be DP. I still think Vines is our best overall 1st baseman. It would not bother me If Weimer was the catcher today either, Lockman did not swing as haphazardly yesterday as in the past but she did have 1 or 2 passed balls. I think Weimer is more apt to get a hit than Lockman.I know defense is a notch below Abby. I cant see why we don't let Moss start and set the pace ad us Caylan for the final inning or two. Scarlett needs to sit this one out. I would give a pretty penny if Seggern would show out from here on out with the bat. I don't know if she is ever comfortable in the box and sure has the Lockman swing down pat. Yep you know Ralph so who the heck knows.

Looking at the ESPN schedule for today LVs will play at 11 am et this morning.

Game will be on ESPN3....or Watchespn.com.

As always GBO & beat Longwood!!

Fundamental baseball/softball tells you to never run the player toward the forward bag...always back ,and never tag them with the ball in your
Non glove hand.. often leads to exactly what happened....
Umpire was totally lost and made a horrendous call....unacceptable for a NCAA official.

Gregg should have run toward the player instead of throwing to third so early make the player commit and then throw the ball home or to third. The player with the ball always tries to get closer to the action to make the throw shorter and also cause some confusion for the base runner.

Watched that play several times on the replay at ESPN....The ref gave the safe sign when ball was dropped and would not be budged off his first reaction....

One of the worst, if not the worst call, I have ever seen.

Yesterday against USC Upstate - first tag attempt resulted with ball being dropped. Player did not tag home plate. Catcher picked it up and tagged runner - then runner touched home plate.

Obvious out that was not called.

Thanks....I need to go back & watch the replay of the whole game. I missed some games bc I was too busy doing other stuff.

Today's game has been delayed until a revised 2:30 PM start time, per UT softball web site. Steady rain falling in most of Knoxville.

The claim was that when Seggern tagged her she pushed her out of the baseline and knocked her down. After the ball was dropped he called her safe because of the push and the play was dead from that point on. So even though she didn't touch the plate ever umpire saying she would have if not pushed by Seggern.

Most ignorant play I have ever seen.

If that's his explanation, he just made himself look like a bigger idiot. That would have been a delayed dead ball in that case indicated by him extending his left hand while the ball was still live. He didn't do that; he watched the ball only and never looked for the runner to touch the plate. An immediate dead ball would force all runners to return to the last base successfully reached. He should have just admitted he blew the call and gained a little credibility.

In girls softball, I've never seen an umpire behind home plate call a good game yet. Their strike zones are real odd. I've seen them call strikes over in the other batters box. Softball umpires suck & make bad calls all the time.

There is no excuse for that blown call, but it's tough to tell from TV camera angles where the pitch is at the plate, but even if they are giving a little up, down, left, or right, they need to be consistent for both teams from beginning to end. I have umpired hundreds of softball/baseball games and have started off unintentionally tight or loose. Once that happens, the umpire has established the zone, and they need to be consistent. As long as the coaches and players know the zone, they are usually ok with it if you are consistent.
