NCAA to release sanctions/penalties against Penn State Monday Morning

If I were a lawyer for one of the abused kids I would go to court and file an injunction since the university and all of its assets should be available for civil judgement penalties. Otherwise, when you get to that phase the university will argue that they only have limited assets since they owe the NCAA.

First, the NCAA has no business in this matter and is only reacting to interject their influence. Secondly, from PSU's perspective, a financial penalty will be inconsequential since the money will be going to one party or the other anyway.

This is a good point. I think if any damages are to be paid, it would be best for the courts to ensure it ends up in the proper place as opposed to the NCAA being trusted to do it.

But it's not his program anymore. He was relieved of his job and is now dead. All the people who were a part of this coverup have been removed from the university's payroll. Like milo said, this was a failing on the part of specific individuals, and they are the ones who deserve to be punished to the full letter of the law, not some abstract institution they sought to protect.

It was his program for 14 years while the pedophile was allowed to bring boys on the campus and dangle access to the Penn State football program like candy.

Paterno allowed Sandusky to use the Penn State Football Program as bait for his victims

Do you not agree that those are true statements?

Sandusky used Penn State football to rape children

People use guns to kill other people

See the parrallel?

Sandusky was no longer a coach, he was allowed to do this after they already knew he was a pedophile

Remington doesnt go into a prison and hand a gun to someone who has already killed a person with a gun

Those are fair statements. However, I see the PSU football program of 2011 and the PSU football program as it currently stands as two separate things. Basically everyone in an authority position has been swept out of the program. It's kind of like when the Browns left Cleveland for Baltimore, only to be resurrected as an expansion franchise a few year later. They were the same old Browns in name and uniform only, almost, if not all the personnel had changed.

The guy still worked for Penn State almost as much as he ever had.

Back to basics: If I'm understanding you correctly, your reasoning for wanting to see the NCAA take action against Penn State is to prevent such a thing from happening again.

I fail to see how existing law doesn't already accomplish that, and since it does, why the NCAA should give itself a vast expansion of authority to provide what could most generously be described as redundant measures.

The problem with this NCAA action is the expansion of power. Anytime a player or coach gets into trouble with the law they can use this as a precedent to apply their own penalties outside of the normal rule book.

I hope we can find ways to keep our kids out of the Pilot stores after midnight.

This is probably the biggest issue I have here, or neck and neck with the NCAA deciding that bowl games and schollies carry the same weight as dozens of kids being raped.

JoePa covered for Sandusky to save his own ass, and nothing else.

The football players didn't cover up, Penn State students didn't cover up, the community of State College didn't cover up and the Big Ten didn't cover up.

And if Paterno hadn't died he would be well on his way from Penn State to the state pen for what he did.

The rest of your post is speculative.

And by saving his own ass, he was trying to save the football program too, right?

This is what they are showing on the PSU board. TIFWIW

Not shooting the messenger- you added the obligatory "TIFWIW"- but I doubt this is what happens. Probably came from the Penn St version of Basilio. This is the death penalty and then some. Lots and lots of "sources" are wrong if this one is right. JMO.
