NCAA to release sanctions/penalties against Penn State Monday Morning

Not if this is what it took to get the record.

The ncaa's decisions today will one day wind up being very, very bad for all of college athletics.

Maybe. We should all hope that this is a unique circumstance.

When something like this happens, everybody needs to reevaluate the power of their athletic programs.

The NCAA was heavily involved in the investigation and it appears they were totally disgusted with some of the things they learned about and thus you get a penalty this harsh

Now what I don't understand is how they are justifying vacating wins, that is the only part that doesn't make sense

You guys are forgetting all the side stuff about have an academic integrity to upkeep and reporting to the NCAA and big 10 about it...fairly often, with on-campus monitor/advisor included

I couldn't agree more, but doing so through unprecedented overreaching punitive action was not the right way to go about it

I respectfully disagree. Hopefully these actions will help all universities recognize that students should be the first priority, and football (or sports in general) are a distant second.

Yeah he didn't want to get it this way

Don't kid yourself... while he likely feels just as bad as anyone regarding what happened to some of these young men, he felt a small "boom" when the sanctions were announced.

As they said, no penalty could be harsh enough for what happened. There are three changes I would have liked to have seen.

1.) I would have like to have seen a little more scholarship reduction. I know it was for a longer period, but I don't like it to be the same amount of scholarships USC lost yearly.

2.) I don't like the fact that the wins from
98-current we're vacated

3.) I would have liked to have seen a penalty about player camps. Shouldnt be allowed to have them.

I love the fact that they are still being allowed to play football and that their revenue for one year is going towards the cause of children of sexual abuse.

I would have bet money this was going to happen and it should have

the ncaa is already as equipped as it can be to enforce amateurism, fair play and academic integrity. When that area meets with criminality, the courts take over.

I think they said something like that...some program or charity-type or something that the fine would either go to or go towards creating

That is good to hear...I was hoping they would take this punishment and have it help the people who were truly hurt in this situatuion.

I don't even like this.

#1 Why should the NCAA decide where the money should go?

#2 The NCAA is now reducing Penn State's coffers before the actual victims can expect to receive settlements.

I approve of the actions by the NCAA on this matter, you cannot have a university cover up this type of activity for that amount of time and expect the NCAA to turn their head.

It is interesting to hear that Penn State signed off on the penalties without having an opportunity to defend itself in the traditional sense through a hearing.

Penn State could not go through an appeal because it would look like from a public image stand point that they are defending the awful actions of Sandusky and the administration that allowed it, more or less they were pdgeon holed into accepting any penalty

that is where the money comes from in the first place

I have seen some people say that they shouldn't punish the student athletes but last I checked they could transfer out or stay & still be on a scholarship

If I were the President and governing body of Penn St, I would take a long and serious look at possibly renaming the university. Penn State will forever be synonomous with this horrific incident. Would YOU wear a shirt that says Penn State now?
