I was hoping i could find some rational conversation here. I find that is too much to ask. Im not here to cause trouble but only to offer insight into some of the happenings in this city while gaining other info on UTK basketball.

It's obvious that you're only here for the conversation and learning. This thread absolutely, beyond the shadow of a doubt, proves it.

I have a lot of insight to offer from the Memphis metro area. I just figured Id offer something instead of trolling around and causing trouble.

If Pearl wants to have any success here then he better stop trashing the city and the society here. His tactics might work elsewhere but you cant tell inner city kids you want to take them out of the 'hood to help them out. These kids dont want to hear that.

He also used the murder of Lorenzen Wright as a recruiting tool. Thats not cool on any levels.

well tell the thugs down there to straighten up

the problem is that most of them dont want "out of the hood" despite how much better it might be.

Well if that's the case then they wouldn't be coming to UT anyway, so why should Pearl "be careful" of what he says to them?

Really? Warning people, on a fan site, that our coach needs to change his inner city recruiting tactics because he's belittling your city. Perfect.

Rational? I love my vol brothers and sisters but some of them are nuts.

Some in this crowd are convinced that ESPN is out to get UT like we violated some 100 year old blood oath.

Everyone belittles my city, thats not an issue. Im just wondering why he keeps doing it while having almost no success here.

I, too, am from Memphis.

I, too, can attest that Memphis is garbage. Forbes was right.

You might as well have written for the M C Appeal. You obviously have no bias since tiger high is your first icon.
Are you a student at Memphis State or what is your allegiance there and if a supporter what is the purpose of getting on a Vol site talking about what Bruce is doing wrong in the city of Memphis.

Do you also get on the KY site and expound on what Cal is doing wrong in Memphis?

There is a ton of basketball talent in Memphis every year. It is impossible for them all to go to Memphis State. Some will go to Memphis State and some will go elsewhere. We are interested in being in the mix with the 50 to 60 percent that go elsewhere. Why does that cause you heartburn. Unless you were present during the discussions then it sounds like your bias for Memphis has flavored your perception of Pearl. I think that a better measure would be input from the two West Tennessee players that just played at UT. They loved it.

Your bias is showing.

Your pathetic to even talk that crap.Only people in Mempuss would believe that any coach would talk crap like that to any kid, hell I doubt if Calimari would even go that far.
I edited this because nobody has to remind you how bad Mempuss is. hell you live there.

If youre going to use that recruiting tactic then you might need to keep your own current players out of trouble right?

Does this shock you? I think the reason he uses the tactic is because we often go head to head with Memphis in recruiting. If a guy has the grades and Coach K comes calling, he is probably going to Duke or some other extremely prestigious school. If a guy comes loaded with a list of NBA stars and championship rings, the recruit is probably going to be impressed.

Pearl is limited in the number of things he has to sell a recruit on. UM has a very good program and the guys that strongly consider the University of Memphis are, in general, the ones who factor in location more than some other things as long as they think they can win. He has to convince them not to do that. He can't pitch NBA stardom. He can't pitch the fact that we are in Tennessee like he can with guys just down the road from Memphis in Jackson, which is a much more pro-UT area. And he can't show them his championships.

He could pitch our location, the scenery, the fact that we are an urban campus, we have lower crime rates and a UT degree is better than a UM degree by most every measure, a better tv contract for the conference, and real competition on our schedule. It just doesn't help his case that he is a slime ball and the word "snitch" carries a lot of weight in areas people would call "the hood." Bruce is weak in Memphis. We know this. What's new?

I am biased to the U of M. I have a degree from there actually. I was referring to the Memphis area, not West TN. But besides Chism, who else is from West TN on that team? Im curious. Youre right about all the players from Memphis cant come to Memphis. There are a substantial amount of players every year going elsewhere to school. Have you not noticed that only one has committed to UTK? A lot of UTK boosters are here but for some reason no one is leaving Memphis to play in Knoxville.

JP Prince is from Memphis.

Ah, I did forget. I knew there was one more. Prince was a good player and a lot of us here in Memphis wanted him to stay here but he didnt like Cal. That was good acquisition.

And thank you for your rational response. I wasnt necessarily looking for someone to agree with me but you had a great rebuttal. I only wanted rational debate but Ive noticed thats hard to come by.

Why doesnt Pearl adjust his recruiting style here. He might not get the top recruits but he can reap a lot of benefits with other players. There are two other big time recruits for the 2012 class that he has a chance at and I know he went to see one of them on Wednesday.

I think he will have the opportunity to adjust his recruiting there, given his recent success against Memphis and his growing success in the post-season. Up until recently though, he really was just playing the only cards he really had.

Don't take anything too personal from it.

It is absolutely ridiculous to presume rational debate unavailable on this board based upon this thread. It makes no sense at all to me to ignore the incendiary nature of the original post, regardless of intent or how you think it should have been perceived.

I have made this presumption not only from this thread but many others that I am currently involved with. I understand that it would be completely absurd to make one thread and then make such a far-fetched assumption.
