Chris Jones is an outstanding athlete. Pearl did a good job with him. As far as being "on top of Adonis", I beg to differ. Jermaine Johnson (head coach at Melrose) is a Vol guy and had a lot to do with channeling Jones to Knoxville. Its a good fit for both player and school. Adonis is a different story. His decision will ultimately come down to Memphis and one other school, likely Florida due to the academic standard there.
Pearl has only gotten one player from Memphis since his tenure began. Considering all of the D1 talent that has come from this city, I would consider that "Doing fine" either.
I've read a lot of these threads about the crime in Memphis and it is bad but Tenn has problems of its own.Players getting in brawls at bars, robbing people at a restaurant, even former Lady Vol players being arrested. If you had a son that was talented enough to play college ball, would you have him play for someone that isn't credible? To blantantly tell a lie to the NCAA and they lie again to cover up a lie? What else is he or has he lied about?I also hear or have read about Tenn being a more national program.Yes it is.Mostly because of football and the Lady Vols.I don't believe the Mens basketball program is as well knows as the Memphis program. Before Pearl,Tenn hasn't done much since Bernie and Ernie. But naturally just the name of Tenn carries weight if you ask someone on the street. But has Tenn taken a hit in recent years? If Tenn is that much of a national treasure..with all the money and the big stadium..where were all the big name coaches when Tenn needed a football coach? No Lou Saban..No Bob Stoops..The best they could do was get a coach from Louisiana Tech..I believe was 17-20 overall.Tenn has done well in basketball the past several seasons but is going to be hard to get a top player out of Memphis..that has grown up to being a Memphis Tiger all his life.!

If Pearl wants to have any success here then he better stop trashing the city and the society here. His tactics might work elsewhere but you cant tell inner city kids you want to take them out of the 'hood to help them out. These kids dont want to hear that.
He also used the murder of Lorenzen Wright as a recruiting tool. Thats not cool on any levels.
Everyone belittles my city, thats not an issue. Im just wondering why he keeps doing it while having almost no success here.
Actually, the down town part of Memphis has made great progress in the reduction of crime. Of course, there are areas of Memphis that you really shouldn't visit, not unlike most cities that size. Memphis has a lot to offer and I don't see putting down any area as an asset to recruiting kids from that area.
Youre right about the downtown area. The City has put a lot of money into revitalizing the downtown district and one of the requirements was to beef up security. The neighborhoods to the north and south sides of town are still pretty rough but thats not unique to Memphis.
Oh, Adonis Thomas and TE recruit Cameron Clear are good friends too. The bashing of Thomas for his statements regarding the investigation might affect Clear who has dropped UTK on his list recently.
Kids take their visits anyway to hopefully strengthen their ideas about particular schools.
"I met with coach Dooley and talked with coach Baggett for awhile before I headed back to Memphis," Clear said. "We just talked about how much they could help me be successful and how much I could help their program, just a lot of things,"
"They're telling me that I can come right in and play tight end because the depth chart is really low. I asked coach Dooley about playing tight and he said there would be an opportunity."
"My relationship with the coaches and the players that I've created with everybody at Tennessee, especially the coaches right now," he said of what stands out the most about Tennessee in his recruitment.
