New Commit- TE A.J. Branisel

Booooommmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tight end....a position of need!

Take THAT James Franklin! Baaaaaaaaannnnnggg!
I dig the pom-poms and cupcakes for everyone, but how depressing can it get when our fanbase is excited over stealing a 3*kid from Vandy, and now a 3*TE CBJ recruited at UC? Every time I see a new offer and see that it was someone they were after, at Cincinnati, I get more and more doubtful about the programs future.

I understand every program has a certain amount of 3* athletes in any given class...but a class full of them should not be the recruiting goal for an SEC team.

Let him coach his first game before you start bashing him. Or better yet, give him 1 season before you jump all over him. Of coarse he can't recruit just 4 and 5 star players. Plus, UT has SUCKED for the past 5 years. Most kids want to go to top programs that have a chance to win a National Championship. We have done nothing to prove we are a top program to recruits over the past few years so, SURPRISE, we aren't getting the top recruits. They are all going to places like Bama and Oregon because they are the top programs right now.

Let Butch Jones win a few games and then you will see 5 star players looking at UT again. If you think we are going to land 5 star players just because we are UT and we play in the SEC you are sadly mistaken. Winning games brings recruits. SO...lets see if he can coach up the players and get some wins. If he does, you'll see us on the short list for all the top players in the county. If he doesn't, we'll be looking at another short list of potential coaching candidates. Its pretty simple...

Oregon is currently ranked #42, behind UT, with a 3.38 star average. In 2012, they finished #16, with a 3.38 star average. They finished #9 in 2011, with a 3.57 star average. They finished 2010 #13 with a 3.39 star average.

Do people really expect CBJ to have a better recruiting class, with less than a month on the job, at a school that has missed a bowl the past two years, than Oregon right now?

Oregon is competing nationally with mostly 3*s, and smatterings of 2, 4, and 5*s.

We will need to land more 4/5* to win the SEC. But good coaching and schemes will allow us to win a lot of games. As we begin competing, the recruits will follow.

With less than a month on the job, and about a month until signing day, with an entire list of current UT commits to re-recruit, and a UT roster to re-recruit and get buy-in, I'm figuring the staff is probably spending a lot of energy recruiting kids that they already have a relationship with (that they have already scouted with belief that they will be successful in their system), and putting energy towards some high caliber recruits they think we have a shot at.

I do not think that what we see this recruiting season is indicative of the types of recruits this staff will target in the future. As a matter of fact, the relationships I see them currently working on for future seasons indicates they have their sights set pretty high.

Will getting this 3* kid help us move up from the 41st recruting class?

Probably not much.................still being out recruited by Kansas University in FOOTBALL.

Exceptions don't change the rule. I'd rather stick with the rule. It works out more often than not
What is the rule regarding Gator fans trolling on a UT fan site with as many posts as you have? The rule must speak to social life, or lack of.
Back to the topic... The Cards recruit to their system and coach. They happen to get quite a few 3*'s. Coach Strong can coach up players, thus Florida got their rear ends handed to them. Last night was no exception... that was well played football. Once CBJ has recruited and coached and played Florida, then you can comment on his recruits.

Did any of those posters putting down 3* recruits watch the Sugar Bowl? It's called coaching - spotting talent and developing it.

Currently ranked doesn't equal ranked after national signing day, we all know this. A lot of the big name players wait until signing day or the high school Allstar games to announce. It's sorta like saying USC was preseason number 1 so why bother playing the season. We all know how that worked out.

Plus, I though this thread was about the new TE we signed.

It is a definite position of need for us and I'm glad we signed him. Go Vols.

I just don't get some people... Soon as we sign a kid or get a commitment and the player is not ranked with a 5* rating, people get on here an talk about how he isn't good enough to play in the SEC and so on, you say those things, yet expect these players to come here and give they're all for you on the field.... Really?

I was impressed with what Louiville did last night with all their 3 star and less recruits. They dominated Florida with a bunch of4/5 star athletes. It isn't always about stars although, don't get me wrong they are important. I was a little depressed when I checked out our team recruiting rankings and saw we were currently 46th, I know that ranking will rise but man its low.

  1. Then why is everyone judging CBJ on current rankings?
  2. That's why I included results from Oregon's previous final rankings.
  3. That's why I included the star average for Oregon's final seasonal rankings, which show the greater % of 3* recruits.

Sorry I picked Bama and Oregon in my first post. If I could go back in time and pick Bama and LSU would you shut up about this? My point was...let the man coach 1 freaking game before you bash him. Good thing you missed my point though and jumped on 1 thing you could bash. Thanks for the statistics that only you care about tho.

It is because our fanbase is full irrational idiots. Some of them cannot seem to get it through their head that filling a spot of need with a kid that wants to be here is better than sitting back and waiting to see if that 5* comes or not. How dare the new coach go and get a kid to help fill a much needed spot on the roster. Wake up 5* gazers and you will see that we suck and have sucked since 2007. We are no longer on the radar of 70-80% of the 5* talent. Our staff is going to have to coach his players up to compete.

I think that this year has proven one thing. 5* talent compared to 3* talent is not that much of a gap. Coaching has everything to do with college ball.

Go back, slow down, and consider my points, bruh.

You'll realize we're on the same side of the argument.

:hi:

yeah, I got a cute one for ya, About 25% of 3stars end up being good, I would say 85% of 4stars are good and 95% of 5stars. So comparing Johnny M. to all of our 3star recruits might be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. And when I say good, I mean being able to COMPETE in the sec

Where do those stats come from?

Beating duke and Mississippi state in a bowl is awesome

It's better than what we were this year!!! People need to stop being so negative and then turning around and calling themselves fans!! This coaching staff hasn't even had a UT team on the field and it already sounds like its Dooleys 4th year!! Come on people give it a break!! I for 1 am pumped and excited for this staff and the potential this team has. I undrestand the let downs from the previous staff but let's give these guys a chance to prove thereselves! Sorry for the rant but its just old to get on here and constantly read the negative posts. GBO

Winning or losing a game should not change anyone's recruiting philosophy.

Getting their rear end handed to them didn't change mine
News flash, the ONLY thing that counts, is winning and loosing FOOTBALL GAMES. Let me guess, your cool with loosing football games because, you are gonna sign your favorite man crush in recruiting? Recruiting rankings mean little to me as long as my coach WINS with the players he recruits. Congrats on the loss, since, in your opinion losses help with recruiting. Now, I wont keep you any longer, im sure you have a 17 year old High School KID that needs to be stalked on twitter. Good luck with your favorite sport, recruiting.
