New forum: Coaching Rumors and Speculation

If that is true, I am betting They won't have a PC Saturday. Hart is still going to that conference at the Waldorf Astoria. If it gets announced, it might be from there,or once he returns. But you, your dad and his boss don't need to be letting the cat out of the bag! :shhh: Oh Too Late! :banghead2:

Hart probably has to comply with some federal employment regulations on interviews, especially dealing with ethnicity among other things, so unless he has already dealt with that clandestinely he will probably have a few interviews at the WA.

You and me are both on agreement. However, the holier than thou crowd we have to deal with here don't see it that way. I am certainly hoping that whoever we get WON"T have a guy on the back of a motorcycle.

Hart is not a fool (I hope). Bringing that scumbag, carpet-bagging bum to Tennessee would lose half the fan base, including me. It would also cost Hart his own job when the bum left...like he always does.

He proved he was a bum with no loyalty or commitment at all to his teams when he left Louisville and the Atlanta Falcons the way he did. What makes anybody think he would treat Tennessee any differently?

This guy would just use us as a stepping stone to something else like he has used every team he's ever been with. He's a bum.

Let me say first that I am NOT in favor of letting Dooley go at this point in time. Period.

Having said that I'm not naive enough to think that it cannot happen following a dismal season. Here are some names to keep an eye out for:

1. Kirby Smart - Defensive guy, so he'd have to bring in an offensive coordinator to run that side of the ball. Also another Bammer in here following the "if you can't beat em, join em" saying... Side note is that he's had his eye and hopes on the UGA job if it were to come open, so it would take more than people think to lure him away from a great position at Bama and keep him if the UGA job were to come open anytime in the near future.

2. Jim Mora Jr. - He's started to rebuild nicely already at UCLA and would bring assistant coach and QB guru Noel Mazzone with him wherever he goes next... Also has NFL credential for those who are concerned with that being a key to a big name coach.

3. Charlie Strong - Defensive minded guy, but has great reputation throughout college football and is a proven winner at both Florida and has rebuilt the Louisville program from basically nothing. He wants to get back into the SEC and this opportunity would seem to be right up his alley. He's also a phenomenal recruiter.

4. Chad Morris - Offensive Coordinator at Clemson is well respected throughout NCAA and can recruit athletes. He's got a great situation as one of highest paid assistants in country, but would be worth taking a stab at to gage his interest.

5. Dan Mullen - Some will say "why would he leave a program in a better situation to come here?" but this is a better job than Miss State. More $ in program, more resources, better facilities, better fanbase, better location, better tradition, and he doesn't have to beat out LSU and Bama every year to go to the SEC championship game... He's done a great job at Miss St in his tenure there.

6. James Franklin - Some will laugh at this one, but he's further down on the list for a reason b/c obviously he's not a first choice. However make no mistake Franklin can coach and is a great recruiter. Look what he's done at VANDERBILT... He gets his kids to play hard, competes with inferior talent, and has started to bring SOME athletes into Nashville that have no business being there.

7. Al Golden - He's facing a lot of scrutiny and pending sanctions at Miami. Also AD is leaving. He has started to rebuild down in Coral Gables, but may be looking for an exit strategy. Obviously not a first choice similar to Franklin, but an option to consider at least.

All this talk about John Gruden is humorous at best at this point. No one has ever actually had evidence he would consider this job. Just because the guy is rumored to have land in east TN and a brief history here doesn't mean he's gonna leave a lucrative job to come coach kids. Would love to have him obviously, but at this point in time that seems like a long shot.

Does anyone know for sure which of these coaches has actually said or implied that they would at least like to talk to Tennessee?

Woke to an epiphany this morning: Be thankful Florida, Georgia, LSU and Bama are not looking for a coach this morning. Is there any doubt one of those teams would have alreADy locked down Gruden for 100 million if necessary??? That's the difference between UT and (see above). This is Tennessee Football 2012.

I have to imagine one reason for the Golden Interview is to put weight on Gruden to make a decision, If Gruden is the hold up. Something is a hold up. Because if you are damn near two weeks into this process and AL Golden is your FIRST interview...we are in trouble!! Im not saying I dont like Golden, not sure if he is the guy for the job, but publicly, this is the first interview we know of. Hart could have interviwed Golden last Monday.

Why is everyone so excited about Al Golden a ho-hum .500 coach ! EVERY YOUNG COACH should display emotion an passion on the sidelines . AS for no coordinator interviews, why not ? Muschamp, Richt,Strong, Sweeney seem to have done okay for their schools ! Being in Atlanta, I can tell you we do not want Jim Mora jr. , he builds some enthusiasm then his mediocrity shines through . He is a west coast guy also , remember his radio interview while still HC of the Falcons, where he stated he would like to be HC of his alma mater Washington ?

this is the season of Xmas magic, for sure.

I've never commented on here before. I've followed the site for a long time just to read what others have to say. I joined a few days ago and am commenting now to share what I just learned today. I normally roll my eyes when people talk about their buddy's buddy who knows so and so said this or that. Well, I am going to tell you what I just heard today. My dad's boss is one of UT's biggest donors. He has Hart's cell. He lives in Jackson. My dad just called me and said his boss told him that a press conference will be announced Saturday and Gruden will be named head coach. He said there has been an issue with getting Gruden's brother on board because of his current contract with the Bengals. I told him he is full of it, but he believes it as though it is gospel. I don't believe it at all, but I want to believe it. So, I am just passing it on to you.

I tend to think that Vol fans are forcing Hart hand to try and hire Gruden. If hired, we deserve a pat on the back and credit for saving TN football

I don't think we will force Dave Hart to try and hire anyone. He seems to be very comfortable with his connections, resources, and decisions to make this hire on his own.

If Gruden is off the table lets go for Bill Belichick. Belichick is from Nashville. He probably has even dated someone from Tn (Gruden argument).

Well, this is my 2 cents worth. If your going to give Butch Jones and Al Golden interviews, you might as well interview June Jones, Art Briles, and Jim Grobe. They have done just as much, if not MORE at their respective schools. Interesting tid-bit here. Miles Knows the AD at Arkansas well, The Chief may be getting that job?

I feel like Golden is a good coach. If you can turn temple around and go 7-5 at with Miami's young guys then you can coach a little. I really don't see why he reminds people of Dooley. I liked Dooley because of his talking abilitly and his importance on family. He did'nt seem like leader of coaches or players. He did'nt show much as a game coach either.
I see Golden as a leader, and a much better game coach but his defense was bad this year, too. He has had some pretty good recruiting class as well.

I agree with looking at Butch Jones Art Briles. Jim Grobe seems to me like he is losing his appeal.

We will have our coach issue settled about a week or two before Signing Day and will have to take the guy from La. Tech. Oh, wait we did that last time didn't we?

The one thing I do like about Golden as much or more than anyone else being discussed is that he took players who had never won at Temple who agreed to play for a program knowing the program had never won... and convinced them they could win.

The question on him will be different than the one on Dooley. Dooley was a very organized and pretty effective recruiter. He brought good talent in. He just couldn't coach on gameday. Golden looks like a very good coach but recruiting is a question.

Almost too quiet.

I think that's actually a good sign!! I do think Gruden will be hired, I think he canceled the meeting yesterday because ESPN is throwing up legal roadblocks and he has to get that squared away but in his contract he is allowed to leave for a coaching job if he so desires just like Tiger Woods can use something other than a Nike iron or driver if he feels it's better!!

If something wasn't in the works Hart would have said so. But the last report I heard was they would talk. So until something else solid comes out you have to believe they are still trying to get this deal done. :good!:
