New forum: Coaching Rumors and Speculation

If we lose Gruden because of money we don't deserve any BIG time coach.

In other news, Monte Kiffin resigned today as ass. Head coach at USC to plan a return to the NFL. (SI.com)

"Right now, the money is there for him [Gruden], but they aren't as close as he would like for his assistants," one source said. "It could happen as soon as this weekend or go into next week, but he's pretty firm where he is and has already spoken with the guys he wants to be on the staff with him."
According to a different source, "He's told them they aren't close enough on money for the staff. He's very interested, but if they don't come up with what they need for the assistants, he's told them he's out."

If this is the case then something tells me Hart will come through.

The tone of this article is sounding much more credible to me than most of the other stuff that's surfaced. Man o man, I hope they find a way to come through on the staff $.

im a fulmer fan...grew up watching him coach, he set the bar to high and got fired after a 8-3 season. now we r praying to get close to that.

Fulmer fan, well you have my sympathies. How about Fulmer having lowered the bar, especially his last few seasons. His last season was 5-7, not 8-3, and his average won loss record for his last seven season was 8.14 wins and 4.57 losses, not top ten credentials, probably not even top twenty category.

Ur right

Ctfp has has a cotract statement on gruden. Said that the money is right but cant make a deal where he wants for his assistance. My gosh...just give the man what he wants

Gruden is not a realistic option. He doesn't want to coach in college.

Local Miami guys are saying Al Golden will be named UT's hbc next week.

I dont want Al Golden either. I really dont! But if we decided coaches based off that criteria, we would lose. (Or Would have Lost in the past)

#1. Greg Roman
#2. Lou Holtz....Best case scenario Les Miles. 28-21 overall, 16-16 conference record, 1-2 in bowls at Oklahoma State.

#3. Brian Kelly and Jim Tressel

I know Kiffen had a losing record in Oakland with no Head Coaching college experiance. And Derek Dooley pretty much the same.

But, good Head Coaches are out there other than Al Golden and Jon Gruden........Bottom Line. It is Dave Hart's responsability to find them.

Alabama went through a few years like we have had, replacing coaches with guys that were "the next big thing", what did they get for that? Nothing, just disappointed Alabama fans.
Finally when they went out and spent BIG MONEY on a guy with a proven record they won a couple of National Titles. Tennessee needs to be done with the up and comers and get a proven winner, not some schmuck that hasn't proven anything.
For every Holtz, Kelly, and Tressel, there are 100 Dooley's!

Lou Holtz is like 85 years old, just the right age for us..I say grab him now.

to all the vol fans threatening to jump off the henley street bridge, i say grow up. the tennessee program is a helluva lot bigger than jon gruden. it will be there long after he's been fired from another nfl gig. i doubted he was the answer anyway. the next three coaches might not be, but that's no excuse for acting like a love sick fifteen year old who is convinced that getting dumped by his girlfriend is the end of the world.

Golden is a horrible hire.

If that is all Hart has up his sleeve, I can't see how he's that much better than Hamilton.

You "know" that the guy who got Temple's players to believe they could win... is a "horrible hire"?

I'm not saying he isn't or is.... I'm just questioning your reasoning for saying so.

These reports are based on Hyams, right?

How many times are you going to land on your back side there Charlie Brown? He is wrong more than he is right. Sometimes you wonder if he doesn't just make stuff up to fool the gullible into believing he knows something they don't.

Wasn't it just recently that he said Gruden was never a real player? If he wasn't.... then how would he turn down an offer?

he was never coming here, finally people can move on from the pipe dream.

I know that you and others use being negative to avoid having disappointed expectations.... but if Gruden was not giving some level of real consideration to UT there would have never been an offer to turn down. Unless he was purposefully trying to tank UT which I doubt there is no good reason he would not have squashed the rumors early on.

Whether he is still being considered or not, these latest reports seem to confirm that the mutual interest was/is real.

Then again.... this is all based on Hyams' word so it is likely much ado about nothing at all.
