Freetimes reporter just stood by his story and his sources on Nashville radio; said it came down to assistant coaches salaries and stated that Tennessee Athletic Dept. "freed up" 18 million that it usually gives to the general fund. That means 5-6 million is on the table for a head coach. No one else is worth that kind of money; on the short list. Still believes that it has a very small chance to work out. Very small. Local radio guys think that Hart is the problem because Asst Coaches salaries shouldn't have been a problem if that was truly his guy to get.
Where there is smoke....................
You "know" that the guy who got Temple's players to believe they could win... is a "horrible hire"?
I'm not saying he isn't or is.... I'm just questioning your reasoning for saying so.
I'd be happy with Larry Fedora. He has done some really good things with North Carolina. He was the offensive mastermind for Urban Meyer during the early Tebow years. Tebow's production fell off the year Fedora left and Steve Addazio became UF's OC. He's definitely a name to consider.
Patterson, Mora Jr. and Davis seem to be very good candidates, IMO.
Patterson makes 3 million and is a Texas guy. Probably waiting on the longhorn job. I would take him, but could we keep him. Mora is a west coast guy, but only makes 1. 8 million. He is building a beach house in LA. Being a Coach's son he would be used to moving around.

he was 2002-2004 then went to OK State . My question is "if he is an offensive genius ( the side of the ball TN has excelled at ) why did the offensive proficiency of OSU decline when he left , just like Alabama's defense has slipped so terribly when Sunseri left them ? I am sorry to be so sarcastic but fedora is not the answer . I heard this from my mother's cousin's housekeeepr's kid's barber , which is about as credible as some of these post I have been seeing !
I don't see Mora Jr. even considering UT. If you do well at UCLA that's 15-20 year gig. Decent money, warm weather, the beach, I mean, c'mon, thats hard to compete with. Same with Shaw at Standford, Palo Alto is beautiful, not real high expectations in football, but, a job you could have easily for 15-20 years if you do well. And once you get a little Cali in you its tough to be anywhere else. Ask Lane Kiffen.
Have you looked at the teams Strong has played against. The cream puff teams that Alabama and Florida pad their stats with.CS would be a great hire ! Defensive Minds ( Coaches ) win championships ! Mike Gundy -no for several reasons
1. he has not won anything
2. OSU is his alma mater
3. T.Boone Pickens has endowed$250 million to the athletic department to upgrade their facilities !
Al Golden - why ?
Jim Mora,Jr. west coast guy left the Falcons to coach at Washington, good assistants made him appear better than he was with the Falcons
Larry Fedora - really ? No drop off at Florida or OSU after he left
Jimbo Fisher cannot get along with boosters at FSU , why would it be different at UT ?
I'm one of the herd that is saddened by the news JG will not be taking our coaching position. My TN flag is at half mast today! Many say they don't understand the love for him and say us that wanted him are living in a dream world. However, I know he would have brought excitement to a weak program. We would have become relevant over night just on his name alone because young players would want to play for him. The big names we haven't landed out of HS in years would now show interest in us. That is the first step to being competitive again in the SEC.
Now we are placing focus on others. One by one they will bow out IMO. In the end we might not be much better off than we were with Dooley. So, I stick to what I said weeks ago. Why fire Dooley unless you have a sure home run hire guaranteed?
