New forum: Coaching Rumors and Speculation

I'd be happy with Larry Fedora. He has done some really good things with North Carolina. He was the offensive mastermind for Urban Meyer during the early Tebow years. Tebow's production fell off the year Fedora left and Steve Addazio became UF's OC. He's definitely a name to consider.

I've never commented on here before. I've followed the site for a long time just to read what others have to say. I joined a few days ago and am commenting now to share what I just learned today. I normally roll my eyes when people talk about their buddy's buddy who knows so and so said this or that. Well, I am going to tell you what I just heard today. My dad's boss is one of UT's biggest donors. He has Hart's cell. He lives in Jackson. My dad just called me and said his boss told him that a press conference will be announced Saturday and Gruden will be named head coach. He said there has been an issue with getting Gruden's brother on board because of his current contract with the Bengals. I told him he is full of it, but he believes it as though it is gospel. I don't believe it at all, but I want to believe it. So, I am just passing it on to you.

If I had a nickel for every one of these...I'd probably have about a dollar

You do know Fedora never coached under Meyer, right?

I'm one of the herd that is saddened by the news JG will not be taking our coaching position. My TN flag is at half mast today! Many say they don't understand the love for him and say us that wanted him are living in a dream world. However, I know he would have brought excitement to a weak program. We would have become relevant over night just on his name alone because young players would want to play for him. The big names we haven't landed out of HS in years would now show interest in us. That is the first step to being competitive again in the SEC.
Now we are placing focus on others. One by one they will bow out IMO. In the end we might not be much better off than we were with Dooley. So, I stick to what I said weeks ago. Why fire Dooley unless you have a sure home run hire guaranteed?

“He said, ‘I just wanted to do due diligence,’” LaMonte said. “I said, ‘Thank you but Jon has made it clear he’s committed to ESPN.' He thanked me and said goodbye.”

Just curious. With all this noise about Gruden over the past 30 days, did Hart himself ever make any kind of announcement to the press about Gruden not being a candidate? We have more than egg on our face, we have the whole dad-blasted chicken just laying there.

He was there when with Zook wasn't he?

he was 2002-2004 then went to OK State . My question is "if he is an offensive genius ( the side of the ball TN has excelled at ) why did the offensive proficiency of OSU decline when he left , just like Alabama's defense has slipped so terribly when Sunseri left them ? I am sorry to be so sarcastic but fedora is not the answer . I heard this from my mother's cousin's housekeeepr's kid's barber , which is about as credible as some of these post I have been seeing !

Charlie. Strong.
CS would be a great hire ! Defensive Minds ( Coaches ) win championships ! Mike Gundy -no for several reasons
1. he has not won anything
2. OSU is his alma mater
3. T.Boone Pickens has endowed$250 million to the athletic department to upgrade their facilities !

Al Golden - why ?
Jim Mora,Jr. west coast guy left the Falcons to coach at Washington, good assistants made him appear better than he was with the Falcons
Larry Fedora - really ? No drop off at Florida or OSU after he left
Jimbo Fisher cannot get along with boosters at FSU , why would it be different at UT ?

Fulmer fan, well you have my sympathies. How about Fulmer having lowered the bar, especially his last few seasons. His last season was 5-7, not 8-3, and his average won loss record for his last seven season was 8.14 wins and 4.57 losses, not top ten credentials, probably not even top twenty category.
I was not even born when UT won a national championship prior to 1998 and growing up in the 1960-70-80 as a Vol , I never thought I would see them win one . Fieldgoal Phil brought home the crystal football ! I was not a huge supporter of his , however, he should not have been treated the way he was . Potential new HCs look at how an institution treats theire coaches and we treated Phil pretty shabby at the end !

Here is the name of the next Nick Satin: Dave Doeren, NIU 22 - 4. Yes, hes a MAC coach that took the Huskies to a MAC championship in his first year and playing again tonight for 2nd. The team is currently ranked 21 in the BCS.

With so many different rumors of this coaching search here at Tennessee the term "silly season" is a perfect description. If the Tennessee Vols can't get Jon Gruden they need to put all there time and money in Jimbo Fisher or Bob Stoops, because after them there is a huge drop off in big time coaches.I would be very happy with Charlie Strong of Louisville, he is a defensive minded coach, a good recruiter, and he is very emotional. I beleive he can motivate a very unmotivated vol defense.
We lost games this year do to being out coached in the second half. If you watched any Louisville games this year you seen them make adjustments and get better as the game goes on. If you was watching the Vols you seen a great first half and us get out coached in the second half.

Freetimes reporter just stood by his story and his sources on Nashville radio; said it came down to assistant coaches salaries and stated that Tennessee Athletic Dept. "freed up" 18 million that it usually gives to the general fund. That means 5-6 million is on the table for a head coach. No one else is worth that kind of money; on the short list. Still believes that it has a very small chance to work out. Very small. Local radio guys think that Hart is the problem because Asst Coaches salaries shouldn't have been a problem if that was truly his guy to get.

Where there is smoke....................
