New forum: Coaching Rumors and Speculation

Serious question, how come there has been very little interest shown on Jim Tressel? Sure he's on his 5-week ban from participating in games, but he is a proven winner and recruiter. His one black mark isn't recruiting violations or anything like that, it was just a cover up of free tattoos. And even with his ban, he is still able to recruit.

The latest news is that Tressel is now the leading candidate for the job.

I do think Strong would be a good hire. Why not look at Fulmer? Tennessee needs him and he would do all he could for Tennessee. I do not think that is going to happen but he is a much better choice than going with some of the names rumored to be on the list.

Didn't the VolNation get enough grief with all the Gruden stuff, what would everyone say to us hiring a retread? Just saying, we have got to move on and I am not sure about him hiring quality assistants.

My dad texted me that TN called a Press conference for this Sunday about 30 minutes ago. I can't find any thing about this online. I was driving at the time and he is asleep now.

Malzahn for HC!

He just won the Sun Belt with Oku playing running back, he knows how to score points in the SEC and he probably has some solid recruiting ties from his time at Auburn. Lets sign him up!!

The Sweatervest (Tressel) has 229 wins. That's equivalent to 38 Dooley seasons @ 6 wins per year (which he only did once). I'm not a fan, but he's a winner. #Best Available

Look, I have been raised a Tennessee fan, but have grown up my entire life in Ohio, for the most part. Jim Tressel was a nice coach at Ohio State. Let me explain a little history. He grew up in Cleveland, use to help Lou Groza kick field goals as a kid(holder). His Dad was division 3 coach at Baldwin Wallace, a Legend. The one thing Tressel did that Cooper didn't do was keep Ohio talent in state. Tressel was very good in the Big 10, outside that he was wasn't very good. He did beat Miami in 02, But lost to Florida, LSU, USC, and Texas. Big 10 football is NOT SEC football!!! I like Jim Tressel as a person, I'm not sure this job is for him. He is a winner though, he won at Youngstown State and Ohio State....IMHO, shaky hire at best.

Other schools are making hires in less than a week, what is our problem? I'll tell ya, the coach our guys are looking at cannot talk right now because he is working, otherwise we would have announced a new coach. Unless it is somebody NOBODY has talked about already,....I am not excited. When the music stops, we might not have any choices left,.....except call PHILLIP!

Also, Urban went 12-0 this year. With virtually no Freshman involvement. Urban went to the Big 10 for a reason, HE WILL DOMINATE!! Tressel has a lot to be desired. He would not survive at UT.

If we could nail down a contract with Bobby Petrino that stated he owed us if he left or stipulate that if he makes Tennessee look bad through his character he is fined a large amount of money. I'm not sure what, if any, can be done. But I think that he is an awsome coach, but just doesn't have the character that most of the supporters/fans want in a hc. He did bring Arkansas back around.

One name not being mentioned or considered is ex-Tampa Bay coach Raheem Morris. Has college coaching experience was a defensive backs coach at Cornell and defensive coordinator at Kansas State. Would be a home run hire IMO!

But we were expected to win. Not against bama or SC or even georgia. But with the most potent passing attack in the game and a very mature offensive line, yes we are supposed to beat Mississippi State. Is everyone overreacting? Yes. But to say that dooley should be given a pass for his dreadful record against ranked teams is laughable. We can't keep making mistakes for him. I love Dooley. He is a great man. He is not a great football coach. 3 years with the weapons he has is enough time to expect wins.

We are Tennessee. This isn't Louisville or Clemson. We play for championships, not bowl games.

When you have nothing that looks like a team , you have to start over. The Vols have a great O, don't you think 4 defensive backs would have helped ?? That is what the Vols need.
Who do you think would be dumb enough to come here knowing what is at UT?? He would have to be offered a 15 yr contract with a double buy out if fired within 4 years . It will take another 4 years to get the talent that is needed at UT . There are only 2 coaches that I know of that could go to Knoxville and do that .
