New forum: Coaching Rumors and Speculation

June Jones.....106-75!! Taken SMU to 4 Bowl games. Took Hawaii to Sugar Bowl. With our facilities, budget, his knowledge to be able to recruit in the South.....He is a given For the Job. He is 59 years old, that is a good 10 years left. He could take our tema to a Bowl game next year. We all seem to concentrate on "BIG" names or the "home run" hire. We dont need that. We need a winner, June Jones should be considered for the job.

Hmmm he took SMU up against TCU and won in 2011. And since Patterson's name keeps getting thrown around, he is definitely worth a phone call.

I honestly believe that Hart has already screwed this hire up from the on-set. The story is that he was supposed to have contract in-hand or atleast a memorandum of understanding last Wednesday with Gruden. Hart in-formed Gruden that he wouldn't have the said documents and that he wanted to interview more in NY. This is when Gruden said no. Word is Gruden wanted around 9 mil including assistants but Hart was at 8.3. The check into cash man and another big booster were going to kick in the difference but Hart botched it. Word is that Peyton is pissed!

Gruden also wanted control of the hiring of all assistants but Hart didn't want to give it to him..I guess Hart figured that retaining some of the coaches on staff would save UT buyout money..which is true but maybe Jon wanted to bring in his own staff.

First of all. Tennessee's Ad is DAVE Hart, not John. Second, define "erogant" and "puketard" I never ceases to amaze me that when I travel out of state, I have to endure jokes about being from Tennessee. So do not be offended by my criticism of your post. And if you are,... :finger3:

Your funny!! Actually was excited at someone else when I wrote that!! I am sick of people thinking that only 1 Man is capable of coaching Tennessee. There are SEVERAL qualified candidates for this job. To think that Tennessee can only be turned around by one person, is honestly a very shallow person. Therefore, they are considered a Puketard!! Im from Ohio, I'm sorry you feel criticism being from the great State of Tennessee, no I'm not offended you flipped me off, I am offended that 30-40% of our fans are sold on 1 man who hasn't coached a game in 5 years. I know DAVE Hart will do well in hiring a QUALIFIED Coach!!

I feel like this has become a torch other people thread. How about the topic? Coaching rumors and speculation. Not, bashing one another. Real rumors and speculation like:

Gundy did interview at tenn, but I think we all know he won't come because he's at his alma mater. And he's done it with other schools just to increase his pay.

Also, another rumor is that Jimbo Fisher has interviewed but has already declined to come to Tennessee.

And Jim Mora jr. has become a a name that's thrown out there because he wants to come to a bigger conference.

Cripes, Saturdaydownsouth.com is speculating that Butch Davis is a favorite for the job. 'Look the other way'Davis will have us in hot water b4 you could fill a hot tub. He would not wear UNC blue color [he wore dark Duke blue] and has the personality of a rock. He is like a mobster in a court room ' I don't recall any knowledge of that'
Yeah, he wins 8 or 9 games but would be a terrible hire IMO. I sure hope they have no actual sources: Butch Davis is largely considered the favorite to get the head coaching gig right now. He’s currently an advisor to the Tampa Bay Bucs

Butch Davis would be a good hire and can turn this program around. I know NC played their guts out for him and looked pretty fast out there. I would be happy with him over strong. Have a good night everyone......Go Vols! :)

Job search update: Mike Gundy reportedly interviews with Tennessee | al.com

Not a lot of new info, but still worth a review. Sorry I keep posting links to rumors and the coaching search in this thread instead of arguing and posting unrelated stuff. Just kidding for anyone overly sensitive. I think we all need a little holiday cheer, I reserve the right to cancel that if I don't like the hire though...eg Butch Davis.

Since you know so much about college football.... I am surprised you left out some of the facts about Saban at MSU. Before the last season he had compiled a VERY mediocre 25-22-1 record having never finished higher than 5th in his first 4 seasons. This represented very little improvement from the previous 3 years. His teams there were characterized by inconsistent and often undisciplined play. Following that one good season... MSU went 24-24 over the next four years. IOW's, he didn't really improve that program very much if at all. He just caught a "lucky" season and got out of town.

He WAS on the hot seat before that 9-2 season and would have been fired had he not had that one good year.

When you take competition into consideration, Saban was no more impressive over his first 4 seasons at MSU than Dooley was in his 3 years at UT. But he got his break and the rest is history.

I am NOT saying he wasn't already a good coach... but AM saying that the results had not yet demonstrated it.
I remember reading an article about Saban when he was at Mich St. and the players and asst. coaches thought that he was a psycho, and they hated him. It seems like he had a near mutiny on his hands at one time. When he got the LSU job, he chartered a plane from East Lansing to Baton Rouge to bring his assistants down , and nobody got on the plane. It seems that they were afraid to tell him before the plane arrived. He hired a new staff and the rest is history.

If Hart hires Butch Davis, I and my money will find other things to do on Saturday afternoons in the fall. That's an NCAA death penalty waiting to happen. Surely he's not that stupid.

You must consider yourself a pretty great fan, huh?

I consider myself smarter than to hire Butch Davis and let him pull what he pulled at the U and probably UNC (although NCAA couldn't find enough evidence) and let him decimate this program even further. Has nothing to do with being a fan, it has to do with not doing something stupid to hurt this program more than it already is. If that's the hire Hart is going to make, there will be more fans than just myself that will vote with their wallet. Just how it is.

Not today, but they would have before he went to UF, even if he did win at Utah. That was Utah after all.

UT Fans knew Urban Meyer before UF. At least I did. Pretty sure most others did too.

UF did not make Urban Meyer. He was already made. He was going 11-0 and 10-1 at Utah, with MUCH LESS TALENT. He was already considered an elite coach.

No defense in his philosophy. NO!!!:peace2:

I heard that Strong might be our next HC. Said he interviewed well and they were going to talk to him again...looks like Strong will be our man....

I wasn't talking about anyone not knowing who he was. The point was that no one considered any of those people as among the best coaches in football until they came to the big schools and won. Most people on these boards are acting like we're doomed unless we get a big name like those mentioned.

Wrong again. Urban Meyer was considered an elite coach before UF. He went undefeated at UTAH, and rarely did worse than 10-2, 11-1.

Bret Bielema,....don't like hiring Big 10 guys. Anyways, I could not place this guy,..had to look him up. Turns out he coaches up North, he is a yankee. Who knew. But I think his history might not be bad,...if he can keep a steady stream of good OCs coming to Knoxville I might not have a problem w/this dude. Kind of surprising myself by thinking this. But I'm ok w/his path to coachdom.

Both my Parents were born In Tennessee, But I was born in Dayton Ohio. Does this make me a yankee too? I like Bret Bielema. I would be on board with that hire.
