New list for loudest college stadiums

Let me get this right........ You actually put the fans of the visiting team behind the visiting team bench??????? WHY on EARTH would ANYONE do that????????

You're doing nothing but giving up home field advantage. You need very loud fans as close to the visiting team bench as you can get them. It's about putting all the pressure you can on the opponent. Put the visiting fans in the end zone.

There are two rules that exist courtesy of uf students.

1. No sitting students (don't think this applies to alumni) behind the visiting teams bench up until a certain row.

2. You are not allowed to leave and re-enter the stadium.

You used to be able to sit behind the bench. Be obnoxious. Leave at halftime and refuel (get even more liquored up). Then, come back and maintain or increase the level of obnoxious for the 2nd half.

It was glorious

I would be interested to see a scientific study done about this. Would have to be several big games averaged for each stadium but would be refreshing to get some hard data on the matter. I am usually yelling too loud to make any sound judgements and gameday whiskey probably doesn't help my personal estimates.

lots of places claim this

Oregon has none of those restrictions. The one problem at Oregon is that when people go to the beer gardens/tailgaters at half time, it takes them a while to get back in the stadium and it tends to be a bit quiet for second half kick off. It just takes a long time to get out, get a drink and get back in.

They keep urging fans to hurry back for second half kick off. Still it takes time if you leave the stadium.

I love Tennessee but we are the quietest 100,000 fans i ever heard, i dont think we deserve to be rated 6, we dont raise enough hell, not enough fights, or enough drunks to be rated in the top 10, i done my part in the late 80s and 90s, but i am to old now, some of you young guns need to get it going again.

I've not read all the replys, but I've been in Neyland stadium when we got called for delay of game for being so loud the opposing quarterback couldn't hear to call a play at the line of scrimmage! GBO!! :hi:

OSU is too high. So is Spartan Stadium.

Jordan Hare is too low.

I agree with tOSU. I was there against Michigan circa 1995 and it was no where close to Neyland compared against the Cocks or Candy of the '90s. The Stadium's (tOSU) "drop" or spread, for lack of a better term, is average. With Neyland, it essentially builds straight up from just beyond the benches. JMO. Now, getting up and actually clapping/yelling, that's another story.

I find it hard to believe that NIKE stadium, er I mean the ZOO is that loud. 54k is all it holds. For what its worth the loudest I have ever heard any stadium get was when Florida missed the FG in 98 in overtime. I have also been to several Clemson games and they can get it going as well but I don't recall them being any louder than Williams-Bryce or Legion Field.

I can understand why it would be difficult to believe Autzen is that loud. I think their are a number of factors, first I'd like to mention that Autzen first I know it's a small number, but Autzen rarely has only 54000 for a game. I believe they average about 106% of capacity. So closer to 60000 is normal for "big" games.

Second, from what I've seen of the very large stadiums in the country, it seems like they are larger than they need to be and have a lot of senior citizens sitting on their hands asking people to sit down so they can see the game. That's not Autzen.

Well if that's the atmosphere there I think I will have to add it to the ole bucket list.

As a Duck fan, its a fun place to be. Especially, love the afternoon games. Beautiful sun, the mountains and yes, the football. Ears ringing and voice shot afterward and life is good.

i'll be interested to hear from you all after the oregon game.

i just can't believe autzen is that loud with that few people. it's one of those things that i have always suspected is overblown.

Yes and Florida will be really quite this year when we stomp a mudhole in your gator arze!

Tenn has good fans, I've enjoyed myself on here. Obviously, it going to be a fun game and I hope the Tenn fans enjoy the trip with the exception of the final score, which I"m obviously hoping the Ducks take care of business.

I got to go watch LSU/Alabama round 1 in 2011 at Bryant-Denny. That place was pretty damn loud. Neyland in 2004 after Wilhoit hit the game-winner was pretty stupid. Tiger Stadium is easily the loudest place I've ever been.

I've been in Neyland when you can't even talk to the person next to you!! When we turn it around, Neyland will be back on Top!!!

I don't necessarily agree with what you're saying, but I get it.
