New night shift thread

Some folks just can't stop the doom and gloom.

Well, in the particular thread being referenced, I might have been construed as the gloomy one by the people that don't have a brain cell to spare. I wasn't saying to fahr Butch or anything. I was just stating that we can't really afford to lose the freshmen we've lost, and that if we are going to compete for championships, we need to get that fixed. Everybody over there seems to think that we can field a team of only starters. If you aren't a starter, you're a waste of a scholarship. I am a heretic for pointing out that we are not better off without those players.

I would tend to agree for the most part, but attrition happens in any class that comes in. The problem that you have when you recruit a top 5 class is the fact the vast majority of them will be highly rated recruits. And any loss seems pretty significant when they decide Tennessee isn't what they want. And the other problem is the fact we've been in a downward slide for recruiting over the past five years (save last year) and the first time we get a class on board as we used to do, a lot of folks freak out at losing ANY talent since we are critically thin at certain positions.

I can see both sides of this, but I agree with what others have said. When you come out of HS and you're the top dog in your conference or division, it's a hard transition to having to compete against all the other top dogs for the same position. And losing from time to time. Some kids take that a little harder than others.

I'm not worried yet about the loss of Scott, Hendrix and Helm. And maybe Sawyers but that's appearing to be less of a chance as the days go on. The biggest thing that would concern me would be the loss of a significant amount of players on the team already (like 5-10) for reasons other than grades and a serious drop in the recruits breaking their commitment and going back into the recruitment pool. We missed on Cherry (burn in hell Texas) but picked up Kirkland. So we're breaking even on the recruiting class. I'll wait and see on the remainder of the team, but I think in two years you'll be asking "Helm who?"

I was just trying to throw you a lifeline buddy..jk. You were gettin close to the ledge though..hehe. El Grande pretty much nailed the way I feel about it. I guess I wasn't as shocked about it as others were. I expected some to leave when they figured out they were not gonna be the big dawg for a couple more years.
