New night shift thread

Oh!..Night Shift where art thou?..hope errybody is gettin along ok...Sam I read some of your posts in the book thread...you are a pretty smart feller. I also like Hemingway..But Vonnegut?..nah. It seems like the older I get, the more I like fluff like Cussler for some reason. I think it is because it doesn't tax my old brain too much. I wish Tolkein had written a few more complete novels about Middle Earth. That is really my favorite reading..just the complete escapism of good sci/fi and fantasy. Pure nerd stuff..hehe.

Cussler is adventure type stuff, right? I'll have to check him out soon. Would you believe I've never read Tolkien? I guess I'll have to put that on the list as well.

And since you like Sci/fi, have you read any Michael Crichton? He is my favorite of all time.

I hate waking up early on days I've got to sleep in for work that night. Glad I woke up though.

Have to agree there Sam. I really liked a lot of Crichton's stuff. Can't believe he's dead. Tolkien is great as well.

Cussler is just pure adventure fluff..I mean it is embarrassing to admit I like his novels, but unfortunately I do. I absolutely LOVED Crichton. It is a freaking shame he died. My favorite work of his is "State of fear". Tolkein's work outside of the Hobbit, is beautifully melancholy. You have to read about his background though to really get him. He lost so much in the Great War that those themes of ultimate sacrifice and renewal color all his work.

From the action perspective, I liked Tom Clancy's initial stuff, but got to be the same thing more or less in his later books. Larry Bond's first trio was pretty good.
