I like Crichton, but the scientific stuff gets a little deep from time to time.
Did you read sphere? When he broke out the science in that book, I was a little bit overwhelmed (especially considering I was a freshman in high school). For the most part, I was able to conceptually understand his science lectures, but that book was beyond comprehension at the time.
Yeah, a long time ago and haven't since. I didn't think it was one of his better books and just had too many twists and turns for me.
Timeline was another science packed book that I had a hard time following the science portions when I first read it. But I liked the story a lot better.
Cussler is just pure adventure fluff..I mean it is embarrassing to admit I like his novels, but unfortunately I do. I absolutely LOVED Crichton. It is a freaking shame he died. My favorite work of his is "State of fear". Tolkein's work outside of the Hobbit, is beautifully melancholy. You have to read about his background though to really get him. He lost so much in the Great War that those themes of ultimate sacrifice and renewal color all his work.
