Of course those schools have more commits than UT. They didn't hire a new HFC just a few months ago. You think highly rated kids line up to commit to a school and coaching staff before they establish a relationship with their would be coaches? You apparently don't know much about recruiting and should refrain from posting on said topic imo.

The post prior to your last post you obviusly did not read. I plainly stated that ALL reasons aside that we are very, yes very far behind in this years recruiting.

Excuses aside it is a fact. I think CDD will put together a decent class myself. But as of April 30th, 2010 we are farther behind than any year I can remember. I follow recruiting as well as anyone can that is not an insider and making excuses changes nothing. We are light years behind right now...

Number of Commits for SEC Schools

Alabama - 11

Georgia - 7
Auburn - 5
Miss St. - 5
Arkansas - 4
Florida - 4
Kentucky - 4

It difficult to not be at least a little concerned.

Coach Dooley in interview said this team has trust issues, well so do potential incoming recruits. The trainwreck this program has been in the last 3 years resembles a who's the daddy show on Maury or even a Springer Wackofest. That said there are a lotta wall flower recruit potentials out there that are feeling weird about commiting in Knoxville for that very reason. IMO when a program goes through these meltdowns the turning point almost always is a season of over acheivement, where a short handed team fights very hard and beats a few teams they were out talented in but won anyway. When recruits see this effort from players and coaches they'll come runnin.

As far as the Posey recruit he went to a high school in Georgia named after coach Dooley's dad, Georgia didn't recruit him...I've heard on other sites Georgia did'nt think he was good enough but that seems odd as other notable schools other than Knoxville did. I think the young man was over-looked and the Vols picked up a good tackle.

UGA projected him as a Guard and have not offered any Guards yet. They only have room for 2 or 3 OL.

Honestly what do you expect? Three coaching staffs in as many years. This staff can work as hard as it wants but they aren't going to make up the time that staffs like Florida and Bama already have put in on these kids. We were playing catch up from the get go with this new staff and some act like they are surprised at the lack of commitments. Honestly I'm shocked we're in on so many highly rated kids.

Some of the actions of this staff concern me like the recruiting organizational structure but I still think the staff is doing a pretty good job so far.

It's not for the ones that are actually paying attention and understand how recruiting works.

Exactly how does it work??? It seems very simple to me. You get as many of the higher rated players that are a position of need for your program as u can.. You try to get good character guys and guys that can qualify.

It is obvious we are a little behind due to our recent history of turmoil on the hill. However the excuses do not change the situation.

We are behind in a big way, thats a fact. We can admit it, it is not a crime to do so. I have a belief in this staff and think we will get it turned around. Right now we are getting drilled by other schools that are in direct competition with us. It is not arguable...JMO...GBO...

Why is it a problem for a Vol fan to say he is a little concerned. Politically correctness should not apply here. If that is how he feels then he is being truthfull and I don't see a problem...

I have no problem with him having opinion or his concern in general. But he listed commits so far for programs that didn't have coaching changes like we have, highlighting UT with only 2 and that specifically seems to be his concern. He didn't give any other reasons.

So, I was responding to that directly. OF COURSE we don't have many recruits at this time. It's very early in the new staffs tenure, a few months in fact. 18 yo kids with elite talent don't line-up to sign with schools who have had two new coaches in back-to-back years, no matter the history and tradition of the program. It's takes time to talk to kids, get out and visit them, get them to visit campus, etc. It is ignorant and foolish to think that we would have 6,8 or 10 commits at this time. Recruiting is done well by establishing relationships, which this staff is far behind on. Not their fault, just the facts.

The staff seems to be doing very well so far, we are leading for some top quality prospects and are in the top 5 for many many more. It's very early in the process, camps haven't started yet and we have some top talent coming in. We should have double digit commits by August/September and if we don't by October then maybe it's time to be concerned imo.

But if you read the threads on this site, articles on Rivals/scout/espn, pay attention to what's happening in recruiting in general you wouldn't be that concerned just yet. But if you're going to base your entire opinion on how recruiting is going by just the 2 commits we currently have, well then, yeah, you will be concerned. But that's just foolish. jmo

GO VOLS!

Understood.... I do not believe it is any fault of the current staff. Just believe it is fact. I agree with your assesment, but it just does not change the fact of where we are right now... GBO

I am also concerned...but very hopefull

There is a Catch-22 at UT. The in-state talent requires the Vols to take more chances on highly rated out of state prospects with questionable character or high character kids with questionable talent. All schools do that to some degree or another but the lack of in-state talent makes the problem more pronounced for UT.

amen. I am personally on the side of high character questionable talent a.k.a. overachievers. Honestly I think the word is a joke. Just because a scout/coach not smart enough to see a kid's talent is no reason to knock his accomplishments. Hard work is a talent believe it or not but that being said any kid that gets it done in the SEC HAS TO HAVE TALENT. It might not be the obvious measurable that everyone looks for but they have to have something.

Does anyone else find it hilarious how everyone laughs at Al Davis and the raiders for always drafting "workout warriors" and thats all those same fans want their team to recruit?

Hopefully, as is happening this year, Tennessee talent will continue to improve and so will the number of said talented players..

I think the poll numbers in this thread are very interesting however.

I am shocked that almost 65% of guys on here feel that it is to early for concern. Like I said before, I am concerned, hopefull but concerned. GBO

From a rival's perspective I'd like nothing better than for your 2011 class to be over half-full with verbal commitments now. Reason: it means you'd be settling for those players who would jump now at the chance to sign with TN. Trouble is, those folks aren't necessarily the elite talent you're wanting. Absent a preexisting affinity for TN, the elite talent kids aren't likely to jump onto the TN bandwagon this early in the game. They want to see what CDD can do during the season. I think CDD knows this.

Here's hoping CDD tires of those TN fans who are clamoring for more recruits and pulls the trigger on a few. But alas, I think CDD will stick to his guns and try to recruit the athletes he really wants. Even if it means he takes some heat from a segment of the TN fan base who want to see more verbal commitments NOW.
