Whats up with our early recruiting??

From a rival's perspective I'd like nothing better than for your 2011 class to be over half-full with verbal commitments now. Reason: it means you'd be settling for those players who would jump now at the chance to sign with TN. Trouble is, those folks aren't necessarily the elite talent you're wanting. Absent a preexisting affinity for TN, the elite talent kids aren't likely to jump onto the TN bandwagon this early in the game. They want to see what CDD can do during the season. I think CDD knows this.

Here's hoping CDD tires of those TN fans who are clamoring for more recruits and pulls the trigger on a few. But alas, I think CDD will stick to his guns and try to recruit the athletes he really wants. Even if it means he takes some heat from a segment of the TN fan base who want to see more verbal commitments NOW.

Good post. I wish more UT fans had your attitude.

Good post bro.

People around here are now "show us now" people, instead of understanding how things work. They also don't remember that 2 of the 8 commitments we had fairly early last year MIGHT end up with the team, and if John Brown doesn't make it in then Jac Smith will be the only one to make it in of the first 8.

Now that we are in the third week of May. Do the poll numbers change??? Do you feel the same way you did when this thread was fist posted?

I am a little bit more concerned than I was at that time... GBO!!!!

Dude what do you want to happen? Do you all of a sudden want 15 committments? Evidently you haven't kept up w/ recruiting very much the past couple weeks b/c we have been relentless on the road and have met w/ a tremendous amount of recruits all over the southeast. That was just the first half of the month. We are now branching off into the northeast and west coast. We're making a lot of ground.

Bryant of Scout just reported that John Brown has one mini course left and should be in Knoxville in June for the first session.

I know it's early and all, but we only have 2 commitments right now. I've been thinking for months now that we will get a few guys to just commit early, end the process early etc...

Well its almost June and we have 2 guys, none of which are of significant rank (or will be). You can't say you're not worried either, because we aren't competing with the likes of Tulane here, we are going up against LSU/Bama/UF/UGA/AU in recruiting!

Speaking of Tulane, they are probably out recruiting us. Dooley better get it going or UT's football program is about to hit rock bottom (HELLO VANDERBILT)

it seams to me that most of your threads or comments are negative...there is still talent on the team... dooley and his assistants will be much better at coaching players we have to get the full potential from them..when the product on the field is seen then potential recruits will be more interested...

What positive do you take out of this? Please, enlighten me.

And we dont want Tuberville here, we are Tennessee we should recruit the best of the best and atleast be in contention with them. Not recruiting 3 stars and let CDD "coach em up", that philosophy doesn't work in the SEC.

Edit: I'm a CDD supporter by the way.

What an original thought for this board. Seems like every day I read the same thread. We hired a guy that very few kids know. It is going to take some time for him to get out his message to them. Feb is a long time away. They will have a top 15 class.

I said it's early, not sure why yall are skipping over that. But look at every other team in the SEC right now. This is a concern, I dont think we get a top 30 class this year.

I want some of what yall are smoking. How yall are "relaxed" about this is beyond me. I just want UT to succeed and from a recruiting stand point we are very far behind.

They can sell playing time. Last time I checked Lance Thompson is still a coach here. The only thing maybe keeping them from a top 10 class will be a LOT of OL. The greatest coaching staff of all time last year didn't have a lot of commitments this time of year. Chill.

Why worry yourself about something you have no control over, that and most of us have faith in CDD and this university.

I have faith, don't get me wrong here my man. What Dooley did to salvage last years class was amazing! Just I am afraid of what looms ahead this year.

No, no you aren't. Otherwise you would actually support him and the team.

The fact of the matter is that this is the third coach in as many years, kids are going to wait and see what happens on the field before committing.

Well said. Actually I just glanced over what you said when I saw Marissa sprawled out for me, but figured you need props for something. :)

I really don't think recruiting is going to be a problem in the long run. I stated it will take sometime to build relationships. Thompson, Chaney, and Dooley are all considered very good recruiters. The DBs coach is also suppose to be good and C.Smith should become a star recruiter once he learns what he is doing.
