Newspaper Interview w/ Tisha DeShields

I think I can write this without any prior knowledge or ever having talked with her.

She will play at the next school for only two years and then go pro. She will have met the qualification of four years.

Think about a great player at TN who was injured her first year and then played three and left with one year of eligibility left.

Lets hope if true those two years are at UT

Sandvol, can the year at a non ACC school count as a red shirt year, three years of eligibility left, but if she goes to an ACC school it counts as an 'eligibility' year, only two years of eligibility left? Must stay academically qualified wherever she goes.

Read on another site that was an ACC rule, not an NCAA rule. I don't know, just wondering........

Sorry, been traveling, yes you are correct, the sit out year does count as a year of athletic eligibility in an intra-conference transfer in the ACC by-laws.

P.S.-If she went to GT she could practice with the team. However, she could go to another institution as long as it is fully accredited and acceptible and transfer the credits to GT.

P.S.P.S.-But, she couldn't accept an athletic scholarship from that institution unless it was a junior college.

Whew! Could they make it more complicated? Thanks for the info.

Please take your petty argument to another venue--nobody else wants to read your personal sniping, especially on this thread. Thank you.

I agree 100% TennMann needs a head Doctor,He/She is down right nasty.IMO doesn't belong on this forum with that kind of an attitude period.

Wow, you are so original too. I bet your dissertation's going to be amazingly original thought. And, you really impressed me with that 45 degree launch angle thingy. And, you know calculus and physics and you're an athlete. And, momentum too. You'd really impress me if you threw out a few quantum mechanics terms as they apply to basketball. And, what about string theory? Don't hold your intelligence back.

Since you've offered nothing but snide remarks sandvol, why don't you impress us with your knowledge about basketball, physics.....or anything for that matter. All I've heard is snarky derision offered up in statements about athletics and academics, yet you've shown me nothing to indicate that you know anything about either. Furthermore, if you should really want to discuss string theory then that's fine, but let's take it to a physics forum. This is one is for sports.

A true academic would realize that the above adage very likely did not originate with Abraham Lincoln, and thus would not definitively credit it to him in an impotent attempt to condescend to another. (Which makes the remainder of your comment all the richer.)

Oh, and it should be "try to," not "try and." Anyone who is actually writing a dissertation should realize that.

It is unclear where the quote originally came from, but is widely attributed to Lincoln. What is is important is the wisdom of the statement, not its source.
Is that really the best you have? It seems someone is giving us false advertisement with the screen name "ivyleague". I've had a great many friends who attended Ivy League institutions for a variety of degrees and not a single person who ever actually attended one would ever create such a screen name.

A source is a source, of course, of course unless it's NOT which would make it a LIE.

you get a 0 grade. FAIL

Is that the best you have? Anecdotes, generalizations, and paltry nonsense? Give it up, Skippy. You fool no one. Your inability to construct proper sentences is alone a dead giveaway.

The down months on sports boards are called "silly season" for a reason. Frequently, new arrivals on a board will seek to be recognized by engaging in "intellectual" discourse or as one recent new boarder stated "paltry nonsense."

Can we have peace in the family? All four of you have some valid points, and I think, if you had to confess, you all support the Ladys and UT. No one wants to pick on one of the girls, and everyone wants to be able to express one's opinion. This thread just sort of got waylaid. I have respected SandVol, Ivyleague, and gule's opinions ever since I've been on the site, and I look forward to reading TennMan's future posts. So can we cry peace and make friends? Please, please.

And what do you all think of DD visiting USC? The USC fan site thinks there is a real chance of getting her.

No, I love talking about quantum mechanics and string theory. Quantum mechanics was my area of study though it has been a long time since I haven't stayed in the field of academics. We can talk about it here or anywhere you like. I think super symmetry is a fascinating subject. What are your thoughts on matter as it relates to the particle?

P.S.-I used to do symmetry problems in Fortran and on index cards if that tells you anything.

Sorry, SV, my point to TennMann, which I think he missed, was that basketball isn't rocket science, so wouldn't you think someone with an undergraduate or advanced degree in math or physics would be intelligent enough to make pertinent comments on basketball especially if they're a lifelong fan? I would. TennMann thinks only someone who played at the collegiate level should be allowed to comment on it. I guess 99.9% of the participants on this forum would have to go away.

P.S.-I don't mean to suggest you have to have a degree in math or physics to understand basketball. I don't think you have to have a degree at all.

Understood, SandVol.

I have a degree and, you are right. It means nothing as far as understanding the game or the players. I have followed the Ladys for years, and realize I do not understand the nuances of the game as well as a lot of other posters. That is one reason I enjoy the site. I get a better comprehension of the game as well as different perspectives! And like I said, I have always appreciated your insight and that of most other posters.:salute:

Of course. I have advanced technical degrees. Is that really relevant regarding the discussion of sports? If I say what degrees I have several people will know who I am. I'd rather maintain my anonymity if possible. I just mention because I think I'm capable of understanding basketball. Do they offer a PhD in coaching strategy in any sport? Really, what you have here is a person comes here and for whatever reason their purpose is to disrupt the discussion. Why? Who knows. He partially succeeded in his objective because look at what we're doing. I've never ignored anyone and won't start now but I'm not going to give him any more thought and get back to our discussion.

That would blow up the idea that she is homesick. Columbia is a couple of hours closer to Atlanta but still pretty significant distance. Simpler to get to though. I hope it makes her happy.

Figuring from Atlanta, Chapel Hill is a little over six hours and K'town and Columbia are both about three and a half. When I lived away from home, four hours was sort of the magic number. Could get home for weekends etc. without being exhausted on Sunday night. So for her parents to come visit, see the games, etc. it might make a difference on weekends. For week night games, you would have to be pretty tough parents to make a seven hour turn around with a game in between...but it could be done if leave work early. Not possible for a thirteen hour turn around; that's a whole day committment. Of course that is using Atlanta as one point, I have no idea where the family actually lives and all the calculations could be off by an hour.

But if she is REALLY homesick, then GT and lose a year's eligibility might be what appeals to her.

Any way you go, I feel sorry for her; prima donna or homesick kid she is having a hard time of it.

That's a good point but you'd think UGA would be the ticket. I think Staley's a great coach.

Me too. I really don't take this stuff too seriously though. Just a place to talk to some people who have similar interests.
