Neyland Stadium to be “preserved” by Pilot

LOL. What's the old expression? "In all but name." College athletics is absurd. The gyrations college athletics goes through to get its hands on money are absurd. "The cranky fans always b*tch about stadiums being renamed, so we just won't do that - but we will do everything else. Pilot logos on the press box, Pilot logos on the field, Pilot-named concessions vendors, Pilot logos on the signage. And make sure you tell them every time that Pilot DIDN'T change the name of the stadium."

And now they're gonna call it "Neyland Stadium, Preserved by Pilot." Is it really that different anyway? Ah. C'mon now, that's just funny. I'm actually laughing out loud a bit over this one. They might as well have renamed it and gotten it over with. I mean, why not?

Ah. Funny. Funny, funny stuff.
"Preserved by Pilot" explicitly implies that at any moment, if the dollars are right, they could un-preserve it.

This isn't something to be celebrated or happy about.
Can we pay the university not to put random **** on the field? This sucks.

I see that the Legions of the Know-Nothings are still around.....

My dad had a saying, "some people'd b***h if you hung 'em with a brand-new rope".

Exactly. There will be some here that complain....the Legions of the Miserable will apparently never die. This is a great deal for UT, the players, and us fans though IMO.

Nice call, bud. See above for some shining examples of non ball knowers.

I would be okay with a corporate name tied to Neyland as long as it was done tastefully and Neyland / Shields-Watkins always came first.
Something like Neyland Stadium sponsored by Pilot

Wonder too, if today's announcement is hanging naming rights on the entertainment area - The Pilot Flying J District at Neyland Stadium
That would pump money into the stadium via sponsorship without actually messing with the name of the Cathedral
Good call

No, that's not what it explicitly, or implicitly, says. Not at all.

It says that Pilot is partnering with the University of Tennessee to PRESERVE the Neyland and Shields-Watkins legacies by being a corporate sponsor that does NOT require its name to be part of the venue name. That it can advertise Pilot and advance its brand inside the venue without taking over the venue. That it and UT can add corporate sponsorship to our cathedral of football without losing anything iconic, historic, or important.

That's what they mean by "preserving."

Danny White has once again done things just right. The man will be a legend not just in Knoxville but of all college athletics before it's all said and done.

Go Vols!

When I saw a Quikrete patch on the Braves’ jerseys, I knew it would be a matter of time.

It’s the world we live in now. At least they thought it through and it worked out the best for all involved.
When Bammer comes out with “Duncle’s World-Class Fried Gizzards Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium”, y’all will be thankful 👍

Didn't know there was NIL money involved in this.

I am really pleased to see this happen. it is a great financial support for our Athletic Program, especially since JNIL has become sure an important issue in recruiting and the transfer portal. Jim Haslem and his family have always been a huge supporter of Tennessee and its sports programs. This insures that our ability to be competitive in College athletics will continue into the future.

I think HQ gets relocated eventually.
Really? That's not Buffett's M.O. He usually keeps the HQ of companies he buys where they were. He left Clayton Homes where it is in Maryville, right? I just know there is a possibility and he could move it if he thought it best.

Putting Pilot ads all over the field and stadium seems an awful lot like taking over the venue to me, but you do you.
