NFL rookie's decision to retire another sign football is doomed

Absolutely no way it's gone in 10-15 years. Way too much money and TV ratings. You may see some more rule changes that we'll allegedly dilute the game but ratings and revenue will just continue to climb.

I could see the high school level getting neutered somewhat but maybe not. Most of the studies on the adverse effects on the body have been on men who played through a Professional career into their mid 30's.

The average kid who plays 4 years of High probably is not suffing anywhere near the same level of trauma to the body.

Group B that gets an extra 4 years at any level of college still isn't getting the same amount of punishment.

It will be up to the NFL to preserve the longevity of the sport.

Laughing at me huh?:moon2:

Just laughing at the overreaction in general. One man turned down millions of dollars. In the long run, the money will always win and people will always be willing to sacrifice their body for it.

A lot of people think the concern over brain injuries and the lawsuits will eventually kill the sport of football.

the more suicides and murder-suicides that happen to athletes who suffered excessive concusions, the more people will be less willing to become the next victim

also, if parents aren't willing to sacrifice their children's bodies for it, the money won't matter because they won't be skilled enough to get paid regardless

A lot of people overreact to everything. These are probably the same people who thought integration or title 9 was going to destroy sports also.

They've been saying that since Teddy Roosevelt wanted to ban football.

Agreed. The NFL is a major corporation. Someone is always suing them. This is nothing new.

They will pay out a bit of money. Redefine their existing contract clauses as they pertain to inherent risk. And continue to fund player and coach education so they look like the good guy.

That's true and the NFL today agreed to stop having blackouts so that they could avoid hearings.

Not really. Both of them just avoided the actual subject matter and shrugged off the actual point of the thread.

What is the actual subject matter and point of the thread then? It appears to be a complete overreaction because a single player retired for health reasons.

I assure you, the majority of people will see the millions of dollars out there and not think twice about their health.

I'm not shrugging it off. Just making a point that football has been going through this for 100 years and they always figure out how to change when needed. At the same time though, The retirement of some guy most people haven't heard of isn't going to mean squat.

Way too much money in the NFL for it to go away. You wont see it go anywhere, at least not in our lifetimes.

The NFL and football hasn't had to deal with the lawsuits that they're dealing with now and will deal with in the future.

I think the game will be very different in 10-15 years. I am anxious to see what youth football participation looks like in the next 5 years.

It'll probably be strictly two hand touch in 10-15 years if it's still around. Probably like arena football on a regular football field.

Less economically middle/upper class kids, same or more lower economically class kids. Much like boxing.
