Nick King on campus

Why is it so unbelievable that his parents would spend money so their son could be informed in his decision on where he attends college?

It was just an honest question. Why would any highly recruited kid/parent waste money on an unofficial visit especially when there's distanced involved and no ties to the area? I can understand if your desired school isn't recruiting you, but if a school is very interested then i doubt a recruit's family is funding the trip.

If a kid has more schools he is interested in than official visits (5 I think) he will have to make some trips in his own dime. Driving from Memphis to Knoxville and staying one night is not that expensive. Especially if a kids other schools are much further away.

Now you've done it...

Sorry i'm not trying to incriminate UT, just being logical. I've even noticed kids from poor financial backgrounds taking unofficial visits to schools across the country and wondered who financed such expensive trips.

King family beach trip?

Could be. Or maybe they have family in NC, SC or Virginia. Who knows. I seem to remember Tobias Harris stopped into a UT game during his recruitment after he and his dad had been to Georgia for something.

It's possible.... I've driven from Norfolk to Memphis several times via I-40 so I'm familiar with the drive and distance.

You do that in one haul? That's a pretty drive but I hate trying to get out of Hampton Roads.

One haul, i'm too impatient to rest overnight at a hotel. The drive is quite amazing, the natural beauty alone is worth it; it reminds me of my time in Germany. It once took me 18hrs to complete the trip being that both UT and VT had home games (football).

Wow suggesting coach Martin and UT are committing major violations, that's a bit of a strong statement.

Is it that hard to cope with the idea that maybe nick is very interested in becoming a volunteer, and not a tiger?

Without getting into all of this again I'll just leave it at this...

Pastner better do something this year, the talent is there, people are watching, and they're on the brink of a move to the big east. A bad year (missing the tourney, or bad seed and a opening game loss) and Memphis will be in a bad spot.

Fire pastner and risk losing those menphis guys, or stick it out with pastner and hope those recruits aren't worried about which drain he has the program headed down.

There's a reason that, while pearl tried his damnedest, he wasnt able to pull top Memphis talent. Yet in CCM's first year he pulled a stud, and now has them in great position with others. The tide is changing and CCM looks to be making a permanent pipeline into Memphis. Don't kid yourself, it's not that pastner doesn't want these kids, he's trying. As I said, he's been hounding Nichols all summer, and you just said hosted Jw3 yesterday. CJP wants those Memphis kids, the he is letting them go because of chemistry story isn't flying, if that was true he wouldn't be following Nichols cross country, and having Jw3 on campus.

The perception of memphis baskeball has changed, and yes that is more about calipari than pastner, but so be it. As I said, this is a big year for both schools really. A bad year by Memphis, and a good year by UT, and you could absolutely see a changing of the guard IMO. CCM is right on the door step as it is, and already pulling Memphis guys, give him Memphis falling off while his program triumphs, and I think you see a UT pipeline right through Memphis for years to come.

Since you're known for rehashing people's statement, when did i state UT and CCM were committing major violations?

It's possible that King has some some interest in UT.

Martin didn't pull Stokes in a vacuum. There were a lot of extenuating circumstances with Stokes. However, if that leads to a pipeline of West Tennessee talent coming to UT, I am all for it.

I personally think Memphis fans should lower expectations a bit. Pastner is a young coach following a guy that might be the best in the business. Going the Big East is not going to help. There are probably some less than spectacular seasons in front of them.

Who are you implying funded the trip?

An AAU handler, doubt they'd fund for a UT trip.

Don't see King being that way, or CCM recruiting a player who even "may" be that way.

So in other words you can't prove that i stated UT and CCM funded King's unofficial visit.

Whether stokes would've been here without him graduating early well never know. Arkansas and Florida both had scholarships they and he chose here. Could've waited 6 months and gone to menphis, he chose here. But who knows, I've heard both sides, he's at UT and that's who he reps, all that matters IMO.

Agreed they should lower expectations, but they won't. A bad season this year and as you said they'll have some rough times ahead, I agree. The Memphis talent is what has really bailed out pastner , if he starts missing on that he may be wishing they stayed in that church league known as C-USA.

I'm asking who were you implying?

You immediately in following posts specified UT, "I'm not trying to incriminate UT".

That would make it sound as if you were talking about UT.

I like how you continuously degrade the city of Memphis by misspelling it purposely, but yet you want the young men of Memphis to represent UT on the court.

Lmao awww I'm sorry, does that upset you?

I actually didn't even notice, my phone is on auto correct and apparently it doesn't like to spell it properly. I'll be sure to keep an eye on that for you.

Doesn't upset me at all, I just find it funny that you continuously insult the city yet you gloat about a perceived pipeline to Memphis (menphis for BOT).

Uhm no, in your next post you said not trying to implicate UT. So obviously UT is who you were implying, or knew that it was atleast coming off that way.

That statement was in response to a MemphisCanes post.

To answer your question since you couldn't answer mine. Boosters have been known for funding unofficial visits, but i guess everyone here is naive to the nature of recruiting.
