Nick King on campus

He'll have to start beating elite teams and he needs to get an NCAA win this season. I actually think he would've/could've gotten one last year, but being seeded an 8th against St. Louis was brutal. Pastner is still an extremely young coach and needs to tighten up his courtside decision making, but that will come with time.

He gets talent (only 3 coaches have recruited more McDs AAs over the past 3 years), and has it in spades this season. It'll also be his oldest team. We'll see how the season plays out, but if he can't do it with this team, he can't do it.

Lol! Yep just brutal

Without getting into all of this again I'll just leave it at this...

Pastner better do something this year, the talent is there, people are watching, and they're on the brink of a move to the big east. A bad year (missing the tourney, or bad seed and a opening game loss) and Memphis will be in a bad spot.

Fire pastner and risk losing those menphis guys, or stick it out with pastner and hope those recruits aren't worried about which drain he has the program headed down.

There's a reason that, while pearl tried his damnedest, he wasnt able to pull top Memphis talent. Yet in CCM's first year he pulled a stud, and now has them in great position with others. The tide is changing and CCM looks to be making a permanent pipeline into Memphis. Don't kid yourself, it's not that pastner doesn't want these kids, he's trying. As I said, he's been hounding Nichols all summer, and you just said hosted Jw3 yesterday. CJP wants those Memphis kids, the he is letting them go because of chemistry story isn't flying, if that was true he wouldn't be following Nichols cross country, and having Jw3 on campus.

The perception of memphis baskeball has changed, and yes that is more about calipari than pastner, but so be it. As I said, this is a big year for both schools really. A bad year by Memphis, and a good year by UT, and you could absolutely see a changing of the guard IMO. CCM is right on the door step as it is, and already pulling Memphis guys, give him Memphis falling off while his program triumphs, and I think you see a UT pipeline right through Memphis for years to come.

BTO, why is Memphis "in trouble" if Pastner doesn't perform? Are we going to shut the program down? You think Nick King is interested in Memphis because of Pastner? Memphis kids love Memphis because it's the hometown school. Because they've watched the Tigers their whole lives. Not because of Pastner.

You give way too much credit to recruiting the city of Memphis. Aside from 2010, it's been decades since we built our recruiting classes around Memphis kids.

Memphis will have a very fine class (probably top 10), and a majority of it will come from outside the city of Memphis, most likely. UT, recently, is WAY more interested in recruiting the cty of Memphis than Memphis is.

Whether stokes would've been here without him graduating early well never know. Arkansas and Florida both had scholarships they and he chose here. Could've waited 6 months and gone to menphis, he chose here. But who knows, I've heard both sides, he's at UT and that's who he reps, all that matters IMO.

Agreed they should lower expectations, but they won't. A bad season this year and as you said they'll have some rough times ahead, I agree. The Memphis talent is what has really bailed out pastner , if he starts missing on that he may be wishing they stayed in that church league known as C-USA.

You just don't like Pastner or Memphis, you're unable to discuss without bias.

"ranked opponent" is such an unimportant metric, I think. We beat Xavier last season, and they were preseason ranked top 15 and were a Sweet 16 team. They weren't ranked when we played them because all of their players got suspended a few weeks were for. They were at full strength when we played them, but not top 25 win. Meh.

Memphis is lined up to have a top 5 recruiting class this season, if things break as they should, so some recruits still find Memphis appealing.

Yeah that ranked opponent thing is just craziness. You have become so desperate, you want a lot if credit for that Xavier nail bitter don't you? Im sure you would really be impressed with Martin if we hadn't beat a ranked team in 3 years and pulled off one fluke win. You're pathetic and I'm loving this.!

I'm glad you're enjoying yourself.

Xavier was a really good team last season, if you want to deny that, be my guest but you'll look foolish.

I like Martin, I'm not going to deprecate him, espeecially not here. He'll do well at UT. He's been coaching just about as long as Pastner has, sit down and compare their resumes and let me know if Pastner really looks that bad.

He is way more resonable than you! You are just flat out blind and stupid! So STFU! I cannot believe you can type the contradicting, one sided stuff you do then question someone else. You're one of the dumbest fans I've ever seen!

Yeah, that was my point, to say Xavier is not good. You're a dumbass! Pastner sucks, this city hates him! Martin will be more successful. Anyway ill be back later to keep busting your ass

That statement was in response to a MemphisCanes post.

To answer your question since you couldn't answer mine. Boosters have been known for funding unofficial visits, but i guess everyone here is naive to the nature of recruiting.

A booster for UT, so yes you were implying UT. If it was found out that a UT booster funded it, would UT get in trouble? Damn right.

No we're not naive, and under the old regime I'd see this as possible. However, I would be absolutely floored if CCM was allowing that to go on.

So if pastner falls on his face, and is canned this year, you're still calling locks on Johnson and king to Memphis?

Martin wasn't handed a job like memphis, pastner can thank cal for that and don't deny it.

You comparing the coaching gigs at Missouri State and Memphis completely disregards any point you were trying to make, nowhere level playing ground there man.

You're more knowledgable than that MC, c'mon.

Well apparently now that you're here too stay (just kiddin with you, your welcome to run with us all you want) I have gone to probably 6 games and watched Josh coach...the problem, Cane that I have personally witnessed and the insiders I have talked to...Josh just does not have the discipline needed to coach these type of kids...yet...now he may develop that but with all the expectations I'm not sure how long the University gives him...after all...basketball is the cowbell...and recruits are EVERYWHERE in Memphis...just no excuses....however, if they aint playing the Vols I'm pulling for em...

I had no idea boosters report to head coaches.

If you think that these boosters fund recruits without the coach having any idea then you're more clueless than I originally thought.

Some coaches may look the other way, but the coaches have an idea of whats going on.

oh boy...... not you again.
So if a UT alum in Memphis decided give a player a couple hundred of dollars to visit Knoxville, you are certain that CCM is aware of it.

So now it's justa random alum and not a booster of the school?

Which is it?

I'm no longer going to waste time debating with you, you don't answer questions you simply evade them.

Now i see how you've accumulated thousands of post in such a short period time.

You keep changing your statements, I'm trying to figure out exactly what it is you're saying. If you would stick to the same story maybe I could answer your question.

However, it's a little hard to answer a question that changes each time you ask it.
