By definition, an alum who gives money is a booster.
Not technically, you have to have some other form of contact with the university, as well as BE KNOWN BY THE INSTITUTION, to be considered a booster(according to NCAA definition).
So, someone who is an alum, and has no other connection with the university that hands a kid a couple hundred bucks, isnt a booster according to the NCAA.
......
The NCAA broadly defines a "booster" as an individual, agency, entity or organization who is known by an institution to:
Have participated in or been a member of an agency that promotes the institution's intercollegiate athletics program
Have made financial contributions to the athletics department or a booster organization for the department
Have been involved otherwise in promoting the institution's athletics program
Have been a season ticket holder
Have provided benefits to student-athletes or their relatives or friends
I stand by what I said. If the NCAA caught an Alum giving cash to high school guys to take trips to campus they would be labeled boosters.
Are you a barber by trade? You split hairs finer than anyone I think I have ever run across.
I really am not familiar with it, which is why I looked it up, just relaying what the NCAA says.
Compliance - UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics read the first paragraph under "What is a Representative of Athletic Interests".
On another note Markel Crawford suffered and acl injury to his knee. Will be out til Jan 2013. Wonder how this will affect his recruitment?
Lol. I don't actually think that's what happened. But in basketball recruiting, who knows.
You honestly believe the King Family financed this unofficial road trip?
And I can live with that , but...
Acting like its an absolutely definite funded trip, and not out of his own pocket because he's legitimately interested, is a bit ridiculous.
I doubt that you know what happened and if you don't know, maybe you should keep your speculations to yourself. Seems as if you want to guess about many things. I would prefer posters post information which is fact rather than assumptions with no facts.

Yeah, it isn't like they hopped a jet from Europe. What would it cost 2-3 tanks of gas? I understand the school can comp a meal while they are on campus, so maybe they stop at Arby's on the way to and from. Kids make visits like this all the time, kids who aren't going on athletics scholarships but who are just looking at schools, period.
Maybe this guy is just projecting from his knowledge of Menphis recruiting practices.
So $100 would cover a drive from Memphis to Knoxville round trip?
400 miles each way, that equals 800 miles. Typical family automobile getting 30mpg would take 27 gallons total. Gas is around $3.20, so you multiply 27 gallons by $3.20 and what do you get.....
$86!!!!
So yes, to answer your question, $100 would cover a round trip drive from Memphis o Knoxville. Any other questions???
lmao........... with the $14 the King Family can dine at Arby's as suggested.
