Nick Sabans 1st year at Bama

So because he won a NC in the past makes going 6-6 and losing to Lousiana-Monroe ok? Seems like more of a reason to expect more.

Lame. Shameful. Sad.

Anytime I start to question or doubt this staff I come on Volnation and see some of the most idiotic comments ever made and it only strengthens my suppport for Butch Jones. There have definately been some things that make me shake my head wondering wtf is going on but ive never went into full tard mode like some people on this site. Trying to downplay his past accomplishments is just ridiculous. At each of his previous stops the 3rd year was his best, thats not exactly using Kellys players. Im done defending what doesnt need to be defended.

I wouldn't say it makes it okay, I just think it gets a coach the benefit of the doubt when he has that kind of resume. Yes, it would make one expect more, I agree, but it also would cause most fans to look at the entire body of work and remain optimistic about the future.

Having said that, I don't think Saban's first year is relevant one way or the other. Every coach is in a unique circumstance. I tend to think Butch will be fine at UT, but I don't base that off of what any other coach has done in year one. I think this year was about as most reasonable fans expected, but I am disappointed in Saturday and think the coaches lost that game. Doesn't mean I don't support them going forward.
I know you didn't ask me, just my opinion:hi:

I pretty much agree with you. I dont know that the coaches cost us the game but they sure didnt seem to help much either. The only comparison I make with Saban is his record before LSU hired him. Butch Jones' record and accomplishments were much more impressive than Sabans before they each got their first SEC job.
UT was more than justified for hiring Butch Jones based off of his resume. One bad year from a coach without a NC should be tolerated better than a bad season from a coach with a NC.

I hate that Saban has become the measuring stick to identify success. I hope that CBJ will reach a stature to set his own standard.

Their schedule was as follows

West Carolina - W
@Vanderbilt (5-7) - W
#16 Arkansas (8-5) - W
#22 Georgia (11-2)- L
Florida St. (7-6) - L
Houston (8-5) - W
@Ole Miss (3-9) - W
#20 Tennessee (10-4) - W
#3 LSU (12-2) - L
@Mississippi St. (8-5) - L
Louisiana Monroe (6-6) -L
@#25 Auburn (9-4) - L
Colorado (6-7) - W

Final record 7-6

That UT vs. Bama game was classic Phil. Saban (who had nothing to lose) started the game with an on-side kick. Phil never recovered as his butt ate his shorts. Heavily favored and highly ranked Vols lost to extreme underdog and not ranked at all. DON'T MISS THOSE DAYS.

Post of the year IMO. Twitter has become what Volnation use to be. At least on twitter there is some intelligent convos between fans of the same team.

It's probably been said before, but comparisons don't mean ****. What happens at UT does! And, it ain't been happening for awhile. And, ain't gonna happen again soon. Maybe, not even in my lifetime. And, that's sad given the resources UT has.

People get pissy when you start a topic that has been rehashed before but it is ok for them to post the same smart a$$ comment in every thread. Pot meet kettle. Hipocrite

Come on man....This hasn't just been posted once or twice, it's in literally EVERY thread regarding Jones right now. What's the point of even having a forum if people don't read the posts.

Regardless of Saban's first year, second year and where they are now. It all came down to absolute total support financially and from their administration. Im all vol make no mistake, but Alabama through money around like rice at a wedding. All of these are why they are where they are versus us.

A lot things that people forget is that Saban Is one hell of a hands on coach. He knows how to coach them up and make a 2★ player play like a 5★. Maybe if were lucky Butch will be the same kind of coach for us. GO VOLS!

Tell us all about Bamas 2* players and how he's coaching them up. :crazy:

Saban recruits 4 and 5 star players and gets them to play like 4 and 5 star players. All Butch Jones has got to do is the same thing and he's off to a good start with his first full recruiting class.

His first and second yr was loaded with smaller time recruits and by the second yr he had a lot of them playing above their level. I'm just saying he is a damn good coach.

didn't Saban's first year at bama get worn out as an excuse for Dooley's first year failure?

we see how that turned out.

it's kind of funny. Once again if you look at the previous replies to the thread how ironic your responses. As a matter of fact my reply to your reply is ironic also.

Oh man I offended someone on Volnation...imagine that.

You guys need to chill. Please tell me why this hurts you so bad to read.

Because it's an ignorant red herring balm to try to convince yourself yhat our coach is on par with a guy with a National Championship ring for almost every day of the week.

Next question.
