there was no? At the end of my statement. It was simply an observation. And your perception of that observation says that I'm comparing coach Butch Jones to Nick Saban. That is not the case. I was simply pointing out to everyone that seems to think that Tennessee should go to the SEC championship game in Butch jones is first year need to take a step back and have a reality check.it is crazy to think about some fans thought process. Do you honestly think that Tennessee after these past four years has the talent to compete with these teams. Just because it's the University of Tennessee does not automatically mean that we're going to have all the talent in the world. Point Is you have to develop that talent in the previous for years there is no development and it's apparent. but that's too much logic for some fans to understand.

Anytime I start to question or doubt this staff I come on Volnation and see some of the most idiotic comments ever made and it only strengthens my suppport for Butch Jones. There have definately been some things that make me shake my head wondering wtf is going on but ive never went into full tard mode like some people on this site. Trying to downplay his past accomplishments is just ridiculous. At each of his previous stops the 3rd year was his best, thats not exactly using Kellys players. Ignorant fans Tennessee is by far the worst program to turn around there is no school that has been through what we have and still tn fans think year one butch should win the National championship and on vandy good for them that's the best team vandy has had and this is the worst team tn has had and really vandy shoulda been beat

4 championships sounds like a pretty good coach to me. Obviously the guy can coach. His ability to recruit was the only question mark coming in. It seems he has answered that question big time. I'm liking the future at UT.

To be fair, how many BCS bowls came from those championships?

He may succeed here, but this season sure didn't do much to support that assertion.

what no one ever remembers or talks about is that saban lost to louisiana monroe that year.

Since we're dead set on using Saban's first year at Alabama as some get out of jail free card for Butch Jones, let's also not forget that Nick Saban replaced his offensive coordinator after that first year too, and it all worked out for the best.

Holy crap??!! Did we hire the midget away from Bama? No? Then wtf are we talking about him? His first year has nothing to do with CBJ's first year. Let it go with the excuses already. This year sucked. Period. No getting around it. Now we'll see what happens next year. You never fire a coach based off one season. I do think another losing season next year and CBJ will be on a very hot seat, especially if we continue a losing streak to Vandy. Praise Franklin if you want, but at the end of the day, they're still Vandy and UT is supposed to be the best football team in Tennessee at the very least.

I couldn't agree more. Jones isn't anywhere near Saban's level. The SEC has several good coaches but only 1 Nicky Satan.

I'll still take the "wait and see" attitude on Butch even though the Vandy game left me numb. It certainly looks like he can recruit and the cupboards may be full even if things don't work out.

Given that Butch only had 2 MAC titles and 2 Big East championships, I'm curious. Just how many do you have? Your theory that he lucked into those means Mahlzans success is soley attributable to Chizik and Ogeron needs to credit Kiffin.

I like to compare Jones first year at Cincinnati

2009- 12-1 (Kelly)
2010- 4-8 (Jones)

With basically the same team minus Pike

Hmmm!!!
