hell of a lot easier to make a bowl game now compared to the 70s.

There are more bowl games now, but Tennessee would have been at eight bowl games in the 1970s if you translate our records vis a vis.

So, whereas it is true, we still would have played in more bowl games in the 1970s with our noughties record.

KPT, I think it said it all when you googled up Roy Kramer for your info, and gave us the 1979 SEC Championship.

I think I'll just defer to LWS (who also remembers that time) and believes it was worse in the 70s than in the noughties.

But I will admit, the 70s blends into the mid-80s effectively as well which colors my perception of the decade.

I know Roy. The 1979 championship is on the utsports website. Take that as you will.

You'll just defer to what you think LWS might say. Great. And if you could hurry up and tell me where I got my stats wrong, that'd be fantastic.

We had 8 winning seasons in both the 70s and 2000s.

Saban = 12-0 YEAR TWO.

The Hambone Experiment is responsible for the team today.

GSM.

#1 Saban didn't go undefeated have you forgotten about what Florida and Utah did to them???
#2 did Hambone as you call him force Kiffin to leave?
#3 your knowledge of football amazes me.

We didn't win the SEC in 1979. What makes that even more humorous is the fact it's probably one of Bama's most legit titles.

When I first read it, I could have sworn your 1970's stats had 35 losses. I see it says 39.

I'm sure you know who Roy Kramer is.

#1 Regular season, as I said.
#2 Should never of hired him
#3 Thanks. :hi:

Sounds like you're the one conceding...

Yeah, how did I forget the 1979 Championship?

And KPT blaming utsports and Roy Kramer!

I think that in itself proves my point beyond measure. Living memory does matter in this regard. However, I have found this discussion interesting.

I keep thinking it can't get dumber, and it keeps getting dumber. I hope those kids took after their mother.

I got the 1979 title from our website. I realize Bama's record that year was better than ours by a good bit, but it's still there.

Roy has family in Kingsport and Knoxville, the two cities where I've spent the majority of my life. I know him.

You're the one whining about the SEC Championship Game screwing Fulmer out of titles. That was Roy's creation. I personally like it.

Next time you see Roy, tell him I said hi! Tell him I think he was a maverick!

The part where said the 70s were the ultimate example of UT mediocrity, Fulmer should never be fired, and the 70s and 2000s weren't all that different.

True
True
and they are more comparable than I thought, but the 2000s Vol were still better.

So doing slightly better than mediocrity is reason enough to get more time after one of UT's worst seasons ever and Fulmer's second "oops I need time to fix it" years in the last four?

He must be a converted South Carolina fan

2008 is on Hambone. Without it, we go on and win a bowl game.

It wasn't a great season, totally admit that. But it would not be a losing one except for Hambone.
