Nico is not ready

Interesting thread. To start, I am a Nico fan, and a VFL, but his performance tonight wasn't impressive at all. How many overthrows did he have tonight? 5 or 6 at least. Last year, the chants of "Overthrow Joe" were deafening for doing exactly the kind of thing we saw tonight. The ONLY reason we aren't hearing that tonight is because we won. But a cold hard unemotional look at his performance yields a 'meh' at this point.

He threw two dimes in the clutch against alabama. Joe never came close to that. Nor have a lot of other quarterbacks in the last 20 years, for anybody

Did you watch the second half tonight?

Two dimes against what is arguably the weakest secondary "Alabama" has had in years. What about all the overthrows in the first half? Has he magically 'got it' now?

Nevermind the picks.

well, i dunno, i mean, it was IN THE CLUTCH

i dunno about you but i greatly prefer having a second half team to a front runner and id rather have the quarterback making plays in the second half than showing out when the games new then folding when its do or die time

Outside of bama in 22, my biggest concern with heupel has been his teams are first half teams and rarely won if they couldn't get a lead. Right now hes coaching in a style outside his comfort range and winning and the defense is giving his still raw quarterback the leeway to make mistakes and still have a chance to win.

He delivered in crunch time and thats two weeks in a row. If he figures out how to put it together for 4 qtrs somewhat consistently we're going to the playoffs

Just for sake of discussion, what does "in the clutch" even mean in college football? In the SEC, every play is important. Every play is 'in the clutch'.

And no, I don't like depending on home runs late in the game to bail out a pedestrian performance. I want to see a complete game. 4 quarters. From the first kick to the gun. That is what Bama did in their up years... that is what UGA is doing now.

any situation in which the game is slipping away or the fourth quarter

we aren't going to see another run like bamas for a long time. Nor is Georgia anywhere close to what they were. They may have one complete game this year.

I agree about every play being important, but the second half is a whole lot more important. Im not worried for the future because Heupel knows very well how to win first halves. That'll come back with time and if it happens this season, watch out

I mean UGA didn't against Bama or really even tonight
but carry on
clearly you're seeing different things

We literally beat Florida and Bama, back to back weeks, and all some of you all can do it bit*h…. Who cares about stats and how it looks? If we won the National championship this year by a score of 7-6. Some of yall wouldn’t be happy.. it’s unreal.

We got way more drops than overthrows, people.
I haven't really been in these arguments nor am I down on Nico.... but... umm... no.

He's a young QB who isn't playing particularly well. Hopefully the time off and a couple of opponents without Ds as good as he's faced the past few weeks will help.

I hate when our fans glaze bama and uga smdh. Straight up dusting off their knees and wiping off their faces with no shame.

It would help if we could feel that they had played well on O. Nico is struggling. Nothing unusual. It shouldn't even be that much of a disappointment considering he's playing some really talented Ds. But the Vols could have been up 2 or 3 scores in the first half vs Bama if he'd just given receivers a chance on some of those deep throws. Hitting a few of those also opens up the run game.

The D has been great. The O needs some serious improvement.
