Nico is not ready

It would help if we could feel that they had played well on O. Nico is struggling. Nothing unusual. It shouldn't even be that much of a disappointment considering he's playing some really talented Ds. But the Vols could have been up 2 or 3 scores in the first half vs Bama if he'd just given receivers a chance on some of those deep throws. Hitting a few of those also opens up the run game.

The D has been great. The O needs some serious improvement
Played well enough to win… that’s all I’m saying… for some reason, we’re taking for granted beating Florida and Bama back to back. Idc what it looks like or how it happens. Winning those two games anyhow you have to is fantastic… Is it hard for UT fans to just be happy for a minute?

I'm very happy with the way the D is playing. We knew the DL would be solid. I personally thought the LBs would be really good. The secondary was the concern... and they're definitely holding up their end.

Just for sake of discussion, what does "in the clutch" even mean in college football? In the SEC, every play is important. Every play is 'in the clutch'.

And no, I don't like depending on home runs late in the game to bail out a pedestrian performance. I want to see a complete game. 4 quarters. From the first kick to the gun. That is what Bama did in their up years... that is what UGA is doing now.

We have the same record as UGA you dolt. They’ve sleptwalked through plenty of games and got bit 3 weeks ago by a team we just beat.

If you expect perfect execution blowouts every damn week from a program that was ****ing dead 4 years ago that’s your problem. You should be encouraged that we didn’t play our best an essentially won a damn playoff game. Some of you who think the line graph of success is a straight line up have never actually been successful at anything in your lives. I’m so ****ing sick of reading the stupid **** like this people have to say. If it’s not a 50-0 blowout of the #1 team in the country then it’s not worthy to be celebrated.

WE WERE LOSING TO GEORGIA ST 5 YEARS AGO, WAKE UP DUDE

Football is a team sport. Defense picks up the offense. Offense picks up the defense. Just like in 22. We couldn’t stop them but our O scored 52 and we won. This year our O wasn’t top notch but our D held them to 17 and we won… In the end, we won. No matter how, why, what happened, or anything. We won the football game… We should be enjoying this…

his point was he didn't think Nico played great and those comments were a response to an argument ive been having with him. Hes never been a wet blanket about the team in general and I don't think its fair to call him a dolt.

He's right that Nico has played poorly and hasn't put a full game together yet, its just what im seeing tells me that he absolutely has it in him to do so

I believe Nico had the ability to be an elite QB but right now he is struggling and very inconsistent. He seems to have matured a lot after the hit. The game just needs to slow down for him.

the whole offense has been inconsistent and everyone doing their job a little bit better is going to help him be more consistent. Its easy for a freshman to get screwheaded when he flubs a play then he makes a nice play but his receiver comes back with a flub of his own then the line disappears the next snap etc

Nico is growing game by game and learning to trust his legs more. I still think he needs to speed up his mental clock, but he improved in that area in the 2nd half, especially when he gave himself permission to run more instead of sitting idle in the pocket and forcing throws.

Also, do note, Arch Manning was 3/6, 19 yards, and a fumble. Quinn Ewers had 2 fumbles and an INT. Carson Beck had 3 INTs. Milroe had 2 INTs.

Its hard to consistently perform in this league. Today, Nico got the win. He made a game winning TD. When Bana went up 10-7 with a FG, Nico responded with a TD drive. Then when Bama went up 17-14, Nico was able to push the ball up the field, despite negative penalties, and helped control the field position battle until the next drive where he would throw what ended up being the game winning TD. These moments build confidence. Just gotta keep stacking.

These early struggles for Nico are going to help him at the next level, too

a lot of highly touted quarterbacks enter the NFL never having had to deal with offensive lines caving in on them or being forced to dig deep every game just to have a shot at a w

Prior to the season most of this board was hyped on what a prolific offense we would have. The big concern was defense, especially the backfield. The hope was defense could keep opponents under 40 pts. Well the defense has done thier job really well.

Hopefully the 2nd half Tennessee offense will start playing 4 qtrs.

He had more time against Bama. Probably assumed he wouldn’t in the first half…might have contributed to it some idk. He seemed to settle in by second half and it showed.

Idk if anyone would be dumb enough to say our offense “is fine.” It’s still struggling in little areas all over and they can’t seem to get on the same page. But showing flashes.

The Defense is everything we need to win it all and some.

If the staff and players and figure it out soon…this team could win it all.

if we keep finding ways to win and they figure it out idc…just get it firing when it matters most. Like the announcer said last night “who’s playing their best at season’s end.”

The only problem with Nico at this moment, is the speed of the game. It explains a lot. He will get there but 8 games into it will not do it. I am sure there are a few other factors but right now it is speed and processing. Explains the overthrows in the several games and the behind the receivers. All about vision vs anticipation.
He is going to be fine, just needs more exposure. Against slower teams he is world beaters and with time he will be world beaters of all SEC teams. Slowing down the game is coming for him.

Nico will be forged in the fire. Everyone expecting this young man to come in and completely blow it up is only fooling themselves. College football has evolved and the NIL is causing so much parity. Just enjoy the process of watching this young man develop into something special. He already has the talent, just needs to be forged in the fire.

Nico deserves plenty of blame for the down field passing issues. But the WRs aren't doing him any favors when he does put the ball in a good spot. Multiple dropped passes yesterday that were completely catchable in critical moments. We need everyone to step up their game. Not just Nico. But certainly, QB is where it starts.

I'm very happy, especially since I didn't get on here at half time 🤣 ;)

I don’t understand this clowning of Nico. He’s a freshman. It’s going to be rough in the SEC in year 1. But he has an absolute cannon and has excellent short and intermediate accuracy from what I’ve seen. Deep ball and touch throws need some serious work, but that will come with time. He just threw the go-ahead touchdown to beat Alabama. He is already a Tennessee legend 7 games into his career, if you ask me.

This throw on 3rd and 6 shows that Nico is going to be the guy to take us eventually to the playoffs.

That's the stuff that gets you fired up. Full on on the run and that elite level ball placement tells you this kid can be special.

Just takes getting the experience and learning that occasionally throwing it 10 rows deep when nothing is open is the right call.
